Two economists confirmed to "Okaz" that increasing the monthly support by 500 riyals for the eligible categories, coinciding with the adjustment of electricity and water tariffs, contributes to protecting the purchasing power of families and enhancing their living stability, in addition to stimulating consumer spending and revitalizing local markets. They pointed out that raising the minimum wage considered in localization programs to 5,000 and then 6,000 riyals enhances the attractiveness of private sector jobs and supports sustainable economic growth.
Enhancing Economic Security
For his part, economist Hani Al-Jafri confirmed that the additional support for social security beneficiaries enhances the economic and living security of the beneficiary families and increases their purchasing power, which positively reflects on the movement of local markets and the demand for goods and services.
He indicated that a large percentage of the amounts allocated for support will flow into local markets, especially in the food and consumer goods sectors, contributing to stimulating commercial activity and enhancing the productive capacities of economic establishments.
He added that the support helps mitigate the impact of rising electricity and water costs on the budgets of beneficiary families, reducing their need to cut spending on basic necessities, thereby maintaining consumption levels and contributing to the stability of local demand.
Al-Jafri pointed out that the increase in liquidity available to supported families represents a boost to the local economy, as it helps sustain consumer spending and alleviate living pressures, noting that the stability of families' purchasing power reflects on market activity and the sustainability of economic growth.
Managing Price Transformations
The Chairman of the Supreme Economic Council at the International Federation of Journalism and Media, Jamal Banoon, explained that the increase in support reflects a clear methodology in managing price transformations, achieving a balance between economic reforms and protecting the purchasing power of citizens, and limiting the potential inflationary effects of adjusting electricity and water tariffs.
He pointed out that raising the minimum wage considered in localization programs represents an important step in restructuring the labor market, enhancing the attractiveness of jobs in the private sector, and raising productivity levels, emphasizing that the gradual implementation of economic reforms contributes to achieving living stability and stimulating growth.
