في أول تعليق على الهجوم الذي استهدف كنيسة مار إلياس في دمشق، الليلة الماضية، تعهد الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع، اليوم (الإثنين)، بأن ينال كل من شارك وخطط للهجوم جزاءهم العادل. ودعا الشرع السوريين إلى التكاتف والوحدة، في مواجهة كل ما يهدد أمن واستقرار سورية.
وقال الرئيس السوري: «نقف اليوم جميعاً صفاً واحداً، رافضين الظلم والإجرام بكل أشكاله، ونعاهد المكلومين بأننا سنواصل الليل بالنهار، مستنفرين كامل أجهزتنا الأمنية المختصة، لضبط كل من شارك وخطط لهذه الجريمة النكراء، وتقديمهم للقضاء لينالوا جزاءهم العادل».
وكان المتحدث باسم وزارة الداخلية السورية نورالدين البابا أفاد في مؤتمر صحفي، مساء الأحد، بأن التقييمات الأولية تشير إلى أن هجوم كنيسة مار إلياس في دمشق نفذه تنظيم «داعش» الإرهابي. وأكد أن العمل جارٍ مع الجهات المعنية لجمع المعلومات وإجراء التحقيقات لمعرفة ملابسات الحادثة وكشف المنفذين.
وتقع كنيسة مار إلياس الى جانب عدد من الكنائس في حي دويلعة، الذي يعتبر أغلب سكانه من أتباع الديانة المسيحية.
وارتفعت حصيلة القتلى إلى 22 شخصاً على الأقل، فيما بلغ عدد المصابين نحو 52 شخصاً. وكانت حصيلة أولية للدفاع المدني السوري أعلنت مقتل أكثر من 15 شخصاً.
وذكرت وزارة الداخلية السورية، أن انتحاريّاً من تنظيم داعش الإرهابي دخل كنيسة القديس مار إلياس في حي الدويلعة بالعاصمة دمشق، وأطلق النار، ثم فجّر نفسه بواسطة سترة ناسفة.
واتهم مصدر أمني في دمشق في تصريح لوكالة الأنباء الألمانية، عناصر وفلول النظام السابق بأنهم يقفون خلف تفجير الكنيسة.

In the first comment on the attack that targeted St. Elias Church in Damascus last night, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara pledged today (Monday) that all those who participated in and planned the attack will receive their just punishment. Al-Shara called on Syrians to unite and stand together in the face of all that threatens the security and stability of Syria.
Syrian President stated: “Today, we all stand together as one, rejecting injustice and crime in all its forms, and we promise the afflicted that we will continue day and night, mobilizing all our specialized security forces to apprehend everyone who participated in and planned this heinous crime, and bring them to justice to receive their just punishment.”
Spokesman for the Syrian Ministry of Interior, Nour al-Din al-Baba, reported in a press conference on Sunday evening that initial assessments indicate that the attack on St. Elias Church in Damascus was carried out by the terrorist organization "ISIS." He confirmed that efforts are ongoing with the relevant authorities to gather information and conduct investigations to understand the circumstances of the incident and identify the perpetrators.
St. Elias Church is located alongside several other churches in the Douala neighborhood, which is predominantly inhabited by followers of the Christian faith.
The death toll has risen to at least 22 people, while the number of injured has reached around 52. An initial report from the Syrian Civil Defense announced that more than 15 people had been killed.
