Egypt renewed its commitment on Tuesday to continue efforts to stabilize the ceasefire in Gaza and implement the requirements of the peace plan, emphasizing that the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state represent the way to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
Cairo stated, on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the Sharm El Sheikh peace summit, that the summit hosted by Egypt on October 13, 2025, under the patronage and participation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his American counterpart Donald Trump, along with the presence of several world leaders, constituted an important milestone in international efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip and establish security and stability in the region.
Egypt affirmed the importance of building on the momentum generated by the summit and renewing close coordination with the United States and regional and international partners to ensure the full implementation of various requirements of the peace plan, including stabilizing the ceasefire, ensuring the sustainable flow of humanitarian aid, completing the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and moving forward with the arrangements for the second phase, leading to early recovery and reconstruction.
Cairo stressed the necessity of seizing the opportunity provided by Trump's plan to launch a serious and credible political track that addresses the roots of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and prevents the recurrence of cycles of violence and escalation, leading to a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region.
Egypt reiterated its commitment to the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, ensuring the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and achieving their legitimate aspirations, while guaranteeing security and stability for all peoples in the region.
International Summit to End the War and Open a Political Path
The city of Sharm El Sheikh hosted, on October 13, 2025, a peace summit co-chaired by Sisi and Trump, with the participation of leaders and officials from Arab, regional, and international countries, along with the Secretary-General of the United Nations and several heads of international organizations. The summit came as part of efforts to end the war in Gaza, support the ceasefire agreement, and create conditions for recovery and reconstruction.
The summit witnessed the signing of a peace declaration by the Egyptian and American presidents, along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, endorsing the agreement regarding Gaza, in a step aimed at enhancing international political commitments to end the war and open a new chapter in the region.
From Ceasefire to Reconstruction
As a year has passed since the summit, the implementation of the announced commitments regarding Gaza remains linked to overcoming the challenges of the next phase of the ceasefire, foremost among them ensuring the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid, arrangements for the Israeli withdrawal, the future management of the sector, and providing the necessary security and political conditions for reconstruction.
The importance of these issues goes beyond the urgent humanitarian aspect, as their success is tied to the ability of the concerned parties to prevent the renewal of confrontations and create an environment that allows for the restoration of essential services and the repair of damaged infrastructure, alongside providing a clear political horizon for the Palestinians.
Egypt had emphasized during the summit that ending the war in Gaza should serve as an entry point for politically addressing the Palestinian issue, rather than merely being temporary arrangements to halt fighting. Sisi stressed in his speech at the time that the implementation of the agreement must prepare the necessary political horizon to achieve the two-state solution, as it is the sustainable path to fulfill the aspirations of both Palestinians and Israelis to live in security and peace.
On the first anniversary of the summit, Cairo reaffirms that stabilizing the ceasefire and completing the requirements of the peace plan must be accompanied by serious political action to address the roots of the conflict, ensuring legitimate Palestinian rights and preventing the region from returning to new cycles of war and escalation.
