مثل المتهم الرئيسي في قضية مقتل الطالب السعودي المبتعث محمد القاسم أمام محكمة كامبريدج كراون في المملكة المتحدة، حيث أنكر ما نُسب إليه، مدعياً أن ما قام به كان بدافع الدفاع عن النفس، فيما أقرّ متهم آخر بمساعدته على ارتكاب الجريمة.
إبقاء المتهمين رهن التوقيف
وقرر القاضي إبقاء المتهمين رهن التوقيف حتى موعد المحاكمة المقررة في فبراير القادم، ضمن مسار استكمال الإجراءات القضائية لهذه القضية التي أثارت صدى واسعاً في الرأي العام.
ويواجه المتهم، البالغ من العمر 21 عاماً، تهماً بالقتل العمد وحيازة سلاح حاد في مكان عام. وكانت الشرطة قد وجهت له هذه الاتهامات في اليوم التالي مباشرة للجريمة التي راح ضحيتها القاسم (20 عاماً).
المحاكمة ستُستكمل وفق الإجراءات القانونية
وأكدت السلطات البريطانية أن المحاكمة ستُستكمل وفق الإجراءات القانونية، سواء أصر المتهم على الإنكار أو اعترف بجريمته، حتى موعد الجلسة المرتقبة في فبراير.
وكان المبتعث السعودي محمد القاسم قد تعرض للطعن بسكين خلال بعثة دراسية امتدت لـ10 أسابيع في كامبريدج، فيما ألقت السلطات القبض أيضاً على شخصين آخرين للاشتباه في تقديمهما المساعدة للجاني.

The 21-year-old suspect faces charges of murder and possession of a sharp weapon in a public place. The police had brought these charges against him the day after the crime, which resulted in the death of Al-Qasim (20 years old).

Saudi scholarship student Mohammed Al-Qasim had been stabbed with a knife during a 10-week study program in Cambridge, while authorities also arrested two other individuals on suspicion of assisting the perpetrator.
