A spokesperson for American actress Selma Blair, who was arrested this week and charged with assault following her behavior on a Delta Airlines flight, denied that she attempted to open the plane's door or intended to harm anyone.
The spokesperson clarified in a statement issued yesterday (Friday) that Blair, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, experienced a medical emergency during the flight from Los Angeles to New York, emphasizing that the claims regarding her attempting to open the plane's door are untrue.
The statement read: "There was no attempt to open the plane's door. Selma did not intend to harm anyone," noting that there are other aspects of the story that have not yet been published, and calling for a full understanding of the facts before rushing to judgment.
Blair pleaded not guilty last Monday to charges of assaulting a police officer who was involved in her arrest at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, and a nurse at the hospital she was taken to after the incident.
A statement from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police indicated that the police met the plane upon its landing after receiving reports of "a passenger exhibiting physical violence," which turned out to be Blair. The police reported that two flight attendants reported injuries, one of whom was taken to the hospital as a result.
The actress's representative pointed out that she also suffers from a neurological condition known as "pseudobulbar affect," which affects how her medical condition appears to people who are unaware of the nature of this condition.
Blair is 54 years old and is known for her roles in the films "Cruel Intentions" and "Hellboy," and she announced her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2018.
