The father of the Egyptian flight attendant Azza Ramzy Mohamed Hassan Shaaban did not know that his youngest daughter, whom he was waiting to return to their village in the Beheira Governorate, would not come back to him alive, and that the attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh would turn the family's anticipated joy of her return into a tragedy, leaving a sick father facing the calamity of losing his daughter, just two years after the death of her mother.
In painful human details that reveal the extent of the tragedy left by the Houthi terrorist militia's attack, Badour Labib, the cousin of the late Egyptian flight attendant, revealed in exclusive statements to “Okaz” that the family received the news of Azza's (28 years old) death online, but they could not inform her father immediately, fearing that the shock would worsen his health condition.
A Sick Father... and a Tragedy Postponed Until Morning
Badour told “Okaz” that Azza's father's health condition did not allow them to confront him with the news of his daughter's death, which led the family to hide the tragedy from him throughout the night, postponing informing him until the next morning, taking into account his health circumstances and fearing the repercussions of the shock on him.
She added that Azza was the youngest of her siblings, and that their mother passed away two years ago, which compounded the family's sorrows as they found themselves facing a new loss that was unforeseen.
A Final Journey... and Dreams Cut Short by the Attack
Azza was not planning to stay long in her aviation job, as she was preparing to end her professional career and return permanently to her hometown in the village of Al-Attaf in the Beheira Governorate, to spend the rest of her life near her family.
According to the family's account, Azza informed her relatives that her last trip would be a prelude to submitting her resignation and returning to settle in Egypt, but the attack on Riyadh Airport ended those plans and turned the anticipated return journey into a tragedy.
Her cousin Ahmed Labib explained that the deceased graduated from the Faculty of Law before joining an aviation academy and starting her work with an airline, and she was looking forward to her final return to her village after completing her trip.
No Wedding or Engagement... The Family Denies the Rumors
Badour Labib denied, in her conversation with “Okaz,” the circulated news regarding Azza's preparations to return to Egypt for her wedding, confirming that she was single and not engaged, and that her plans were limited to spending a vacation with her sister, in preparation for arranging her final return and settling among her family members.
An Egyptian Village Shrouded in Sadness
In the village of Al-Attaf in the Beheira Governorate, the feelings of waiting for Azza's return turned into deep sorrow after the family received the news of her death in the attack that targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
The family lived through hours of anxiety and anticipation as they followed the news circulating about the attack, before her older sister confirmed the news of the death, after which began a more painful task; searching for the right way and time to inform their sick father of the loss of his youngest daughter.
Egyptian Efforts to Retrieve the Remains
In the aftermath of the incident, the Egyptian embassy and the consulate general in Riyadh followed up on the necessary procedures to transport the remains of the late flight attendant, in coordination with her family.
Between plans for return and settling down and hopes of spending a vacation with her sister, Azza departed before achieving what she aspired to, leaving behind a family living with the impact of loss and the shock of a sudden end.
