قصص الناجين
نجت طفلة واحدة فقط من عائلة باكويلتا بعد أن حمت والدتها الطفلة الرضيعة بجسدها أثناء انهيار منزلهم. أما السكان فقد لجأوا إلى الطرقات، ويبيتون تحت خيم مؤقتة، بينما يعانون من نقص الغذاء والمياه.
الفشل في الملاجئ
حتى مراكز الإخلاء لم تسلم من الكارثة، إذ تسبب انهيار مدخل ملعب كرة سلة في بلدة سان ريميغو بمقتل خمسة أشخاص خلال نشاط رسمي للإنقاذ.
وعود مكررة
وزار الرئيس الفلبيني المنطقة بعد الكارثة ووعد بالمساعدة وإعادة البناء، لكن السكان يعبرون عن إحباطهم من تكرار الوعود التي لا تتحقق.

The Tragedy of the Pacquiao Family
The home of Jean Lita Pacquiao and her family was a symbol of safety after the devastating Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, but it collapsed on their heads during the earthquake, claiming the lives of the wife and two of their children, leaving the father injured and hospitalized.
Recurring Threat
The Philippines, located on the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific, suffers annually from earthquakes, typhoons, and floods. Despite massive government spending on preparations, residents complain of corruption that hinders aid from reaching those in need.
Widespread Damage
The earthquake destroyed hospitals, water and electricity networks, bridges, and government buildings in northern Cebu, and caused landslides, increasing the extent of the losses.
Survivor Stories
Only one child from the Pacquiao family survived after her mother shielded the infant with her body during the collapse of their home. Meanwhile, residents have taken to the streets, sleeping under temporary tents, while suffering from shortages of food and water.
Failure in Shelters
Even evacuation centers were not spared from the disaster, as the collapse of the entrance to a basketball court in the town of San Remigio resulted in the deaths of five people during an official rescue activity.
Repeated Promises
The Philippine president visited the area after the disaster and promised assistance and rebuilding, but residents express their frustration over the repeated promises that go unfulfilled.
