وأفادت هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الأمريكية، أن مركز الزلزال كان على بعد 79 كيلومتراً من مدينة بوبونديتا، وعلى عمق 78.9 كيلومتر.
ولم ترد حتى الآن أنباء عن وقوع خسائر بشرية أو أضرار مادية جراء الزلزال.
A 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck today in Papua New Guinea.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 79 kilometers from the city of Popondetta, at a depth of 78.9 kilometers.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake.
