ألقت الشرطة النيوزيلندية، القبض على امرأة بتهمة إهمال طفل بعد أن عثر سائق حافلة على طفلة تبلغ من العمر عامين حية داخل حقيبة سفر كانت مخبأة في مقصورة الأمتعة بالمركبة، بحسب ما ذكرته السلطات.
وقال مفتش المباحث سايمون هاريسون في بيان إن سائق الحافلة لاحظ حركة داخل الحقيبة خلال توقف مقرر في مستوطنة كايواكا، شمال أوكلاند، بعد أن طلب أحد الركاب الوصول إلى مقصورة الأمتعة، وفقاً لما ذكرته وكالة «أسوشييتد برس» للأنباء.
وأضاف هاريسون أنه عندما فتح السائق حقيبة السفر، اكتشف الطفلة التي كانت حرارتها مرتفعة جداً، ولكنها بدت غير مصابة بأذى جسدي.
وتم نقل الطفلة إلى المستشفى، حيث بقيت ليلة الأحد بالتوقيت المحلي.
وتم توجيه تهمة سوء معاملة أو إهمال طفل إلى المرأة التي ألقي القبض عليها، ومن المقرر أن تمثل أمام المحكمة اليوم (الإثنين).
The New Zealand police arrested a woman on charges of child neglect after a bus driver found a two-year-old girl alive inside a suitcase that was hidden in the vehicle's luggage compartment, according to authorities.
Detective Inspector Simon Harrison stated in a statement that the bus driver noticed movement inside the suitcase during a scheduled stop in the settlement of Kaiwaka, north of Auckland, after a passenger requested access to the luggage compartment, according to the Associated Press.
Harrison added that when the driver opened the suitcase, he discovered the girl, who had a very high temperature but appeared to be physically unharmed.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where she remained overnight on Sunday local time.
The woman who was arrested has been charged with child abuse or neglect and is scheduled to appear in court today (Monday).
