وصلت إلى جزيرة هوكايدو في شمال اليابان اليوم أمواج مد عالية (تسونامي) الناجمة عن الزلزال الضخم الذي ضرب قبالة سواحل أقصى الشرق الروسي، وقد بلغ ارتفاعها 30 سنتيمترا، بحسب ما ذكرت هيئة الإذاعة والتلفزيون اليابانية «إن إتش كاي».
وحذّرت الهيئة من أن أمواج تسونامي أخرى قد تتبع هذه الموجة الأولى وقد يكون ارتفاعها أعلى بكثير، علمًا بأن وكالة الأرصاد الجوية اليابانية كانت قد توقعت أمواجًا يصل ارتفاعها إلى 3 أمتار على طول السواحل الشمالية والشرقية للأرخبيل، وصولًا إلى جنوب أوساكا.
High waves (tsunami) caused by the massive earthquake that struck off the coast of far eastern Russia reached Hokkaido Island in northern Japan today, with a height of 30 centimeters, according to Japan's NHK Broadcasting Corporation.
The agency warned that other tsunami waves may follow this first wave and could be much higher, noting that the Japan Meteorological Agency had predicted waves reaching heights of up to 3 meters along the northern and eastern coasts of the archipelago, extending down to southern Osaka.
