تسببت الأمطار الغزيرة التي هطلت على كوريا الجنوبية في مقتل ما لا يقل عن 17 شخصاً، فيما لا يزال 11 آخرون في عداد المفقودين، جراء الفيضانات والانهيارات الأرضية التي اجتاحت البلاد.
وشهدت مدينة غابيونغ السياحية في إقليم غيونغي، على بعد 40 ميلاً شرق العاصمة سيول، هطول أمطار بلغت 170 ملليمتراً في الساعة صباح (الأحد)، ما تسبب في انهيار أرضي دمر منازل وسيول جرفت مركبات.
وارتفع عدد الضحايا مع انتشال جثث العديد من الأشخاص الذين كانوا في عداد المفقودين، خصوصاً أولئك الذين جرفتهم الانهيارات الأرضية.
وبحسب البيانات الرسمية، بلغت حصيلة الضحايا خلال خمسة أيام من الأمطار الغزيرة 17 قتيلاً. ويُرجع العلماء تفاقم مثل هذه الظواهر الجوية المتطرفة إلى أزمة المناخ التي تزيد من حدة وتكرار هذه الكوارث عالمياً.
بدأت الأمطار الغزيرة يوم الأربعاء الماضي، مركزةً في المناطق الجنوبية والوسطى من البلاد، قبل أن تمتد إلى المناطق الشمالية صباح الأحد.
وفي غابيونغ، لقيت امرأة في السبعينات من عمرها حتفها بعد أن دُمر منزلها جراء انهيار أرضي، وفقاً لوكالة يونهاب للأنباء.
وسجلت مقاطعة سانشيونغ الجنوبية أعلى معدلات الأمطار، حيث بلغت 800 ملليمتراً منذ بداية الأمطار.
وعلى الرغم من أن كوريا الجنوبية معتادة على موسم الأمطار الموسمية في يوليو، إلا أن هذه الأمطار تعد من الأعلى تسجيلاً على الإطلاق من حيث الكثافة الساعية.
وتوقعت هيئة الأرصاد الجوية أن تتبع هذه الفيضانات موجة حر شديدة.
وفي 2022، شهدت البلاد فيضانات قياسية أودت بحياة 11 شخصاً على الأقل.
