تحوّلت رحلة جوية عادية تابعة لشركة أمريكان إيرلاينز، متجهة إلى دالاس، تكساس، إلى حدث مثير للقلق عندما اضطرت الطائرة إلى الهبوط اضطرارياً في منطقة إيسلا فيردي بعد نحو نصف ساعة من إقلاعها، بسبب بلاغ من راكبة بشأن تهديد محتمل بوجود قنبلة على متن الطائرة.
كانت الرحلة، التي تحمل على متنها عشرات الركاب، قد أقلعت من مطار لويس مونيوز مارين الدولي في سان خوان في طريقها إلى مطار دالاس/فورت وورث الدولي، وبعد نحو 30 دقيقة من الإقلاع، لاحظت إحدى الراكبات رسالة نصية على شاشة هاتف راكبة أخرى، تحتوي على كلمة من ثلاثة حروف فسرتها على أنها تشير إلى تهديد بوجود قنبلة.
وعلى الفور، أبلغت الراكبة طاقم الطائرة، ما دفع قائد الطائرة إلى اتخاذ قرار سريع بالهبوط الاضطراري في منطقة إيسلا فيردي القريبة، وهي منطقة آمنة تابعة لمطار سان خوان، وتم إخلاء الطائرة بسرعة وأمان، وتمركزت فرق الطوارئ، بما في ذلك وحدات تفكيك القنابل والكلاب البوليسية، حول الطائرة لإجراء تفتيش شامل.
وبعد تحقيق دقيق، تبين أن الرسالة النصية كانت جزءًا من محادثة عادية، وأن الكلمة التي أثارت الذعر كانت نتيجة سوء تفسير أو سياق غير صحيح، ولم يتم العثور على أي مواد متفجرة أو تهديدات فعلية على متن الطائرة.
وأشادت السلطات بسرعة استجابة طاقم الطائرة وفرق الأمن في التعامل مع الموقف، مؤكدة أن الإجراءات المتخذة كانت ضرورية لضمان سلامة الركاب، ومع ذلك، أثارت الحادثة جدلاً حول حساسية الركاب تجاه المحادثات الخاصة في الأماكن العامة، خصوصا في ظل التوترات الأمنية المتزايدة في صناعة الطيران.
و أصدرت أمريكان إيرلاينز بياناً أكدت فيه التزامها بسلامة الركاب، مشيرة إلى أنها ستتعاون مع السلطات لمراجعة الحادثة وتحسين بروتوكولات الأمان، وأدت الحادثة إلى تأخير مؤقت في عمليات مطار لويس مونيوز مارين، لكن الطائرة استأنفت رحلاتها بعد ساعات قليلة، وتم نقل الركاب إلى رحلة أخرى أو استيعابهم في ترتيبات بديلة.
