أكد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أن توقيف الحاكم الديمقراطي لكاليفورنيا غافين نيوسوم سيكون «أمرا رائعا»، وذلك في معرض ردّه على سؤال بشأن احتمال حدوث ذلك.
وفي تصريح لشبكة «إم إس إن بي سي»، قال نيوسوم: «هيا، أوقِفوني»، ردا على إعلان كبير مستشاري ترمب لشؤون الهجرة ومهندس سياسات الطرد الجماعي للمهاجرين المخالفين لأنظمة الإقامة توم هومان عزمه على ذلك».
وردا على سؤال طرحه عليه صحفي لدى وصوله إلى البيت الأبيض الإثنين، قال الرئيس الأمريكي «لفعلت ذلك لو كنت توم (هومان)، أعتقد أن ذلك سيكون أمرا رائعا».
وتابع ترمب متحدثا عن نيوسوم «إنه يؤدي عملا فظيعا».
وردّ نيوسوم بحدة في منشور على إكس جاء فيه «رئيس الولايات المتحدة دعا للتو إلى توقيف حاكم في منصبه هذا خط لا يمكن تجاوزه»، منددا بما اعتبره «خطوة لا يمكن إنكارها نحو الاستبداد».
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the arrest of California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom would be "a great thing," in response to a question about the possibility of that happening.
In a statement to MSNBC, Newsom said, "Come on, arrest me," in response to the announcement by Trump's senior immigration advisor and architect of mass deportation policies for illegal immigrants, Tom Homan, about his intention to do so.
In response to a question posed by a reporter upon his arrival at the White House on Monday, the U.S. President said, "I would do it if I were Tom (Homan), I think that would be a great thing."
Trump continued speaking about Newsom, saying, "He is doing a terrible job."
Newsom sharply responded in a post on X, stating, "The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting governor—this is a line that cannot be crossed," condemning what he considered "an undeniable step towards tyranny."
