أوقفت شرطة الهجرة والجمارك الأمريكية لوقت وجيز نجم «تيك توك» السنغالي الإيطالي خابي لام الذي يحظى حسابه بأكبر عدد من المتابعين في العالم، وأوضحت أنها أذنت له بـ«المغادرة الطوعية» من الولايات المتحدة بعد تجاوز إقامته فيها مدة صلاحية تأشيرته.
وأعلنت شرطة الهجرة والجمارك في بيان أنها «أوقفت المواطن الإيطالي لام (25 عاماً) في 6 يونيو بمطار هاري ريد الدولي في لاس فيغاس بولاية نيفادا، لمخالفته قوانين الهجرة».
وأضاف البيان أن لام دخل الولايات المتحدة في 30 أبريل و«تجاوز مدة صلاحية تأشيرته». وأفاد بأن إذناً بـ«المغادرة الطوعية أُعطيَ في 6 يونيو» للام، مشيراً إلى أن المؤثر الإيطالي السنغالي الأصل الذي يبلغ عدد متابعيه على تيك توك 162,2 مليون، وهو الأكبر على هذه المنصة، «غادر الولايات المتحدة» بعد حصوله على الإذن.
وحتى ظهر السبت، لم ينشر لام أي تعليق على الحادثة.
ونفّذ الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب منذ عودته إلى البيت الأبيض في يناير الماضي وعوده الانتخابية بتشديد ضوابط الهجرة وبشنّ حملة ترحيل جماعي من الولايات المتحدة، طُعن في بعض جوانبها أمام المحاكم الأمريكية.
واشتهر لام الذي عُيّن سفيراً لليونيسيف في نهاية يناير، بمقاطع الفيديو القصيرة والصامتة التي يسخر فيها من البرامج التعليمية والنصائح التي تعقّد المهمات البسيطة وتنتشر بكثرة على الإنترنت. ويقدّم لام في مقاطعه حلولاً سهلة لما تعقّده هذه البرامج التعليمية، معبّراً عن استغرابه بحركة رفع راحتَي يديه نحو السماء، مصحوبة بابتسامة بالمعنى نفسه وبعينين واسعتين تَشِيان أيضاً بالدهشة.
وخطرت فكرة دخول عالم «تيك توك» للام عندما كان محتاراً في أمره في المسكن الشعبي لعائلته في تشيفاسو قرب تورينو (شمال إيطاليا)، بعدما فقد وظيفته كميكانيكي في أحد المصانع في مارس 2020، مع بداية جائحة كوفيد.
ولقيَت مقاطع الفيديو التي ينشرها نجاحاً كبيراً، ما أتاح له تحقيق مدخول كبير، إذ كسب نحو 16,5 مليون دولار من عقود تعاون مع شركات بين يونيو 2022 وسبتمبر 2023، وفق تقديرات مجلة «فوربس».
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement briefly detained Senegalese-Italian TikTok star Khaby Lame, whose account has the largest number of followers in the world, and stated that he was granted "voluntary departure" from the United States after overstaying his visa.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced in a statement that they "detained Italian citizen Lame (25 years old) on June 6 at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada, for violating immigration laws."
The statement added that Lame entered the United States on April 30 and "exceeded the validity period of his visa." It reported that permission for "voluntary departure was granted on June 6" to Lame, noting that the Italian influencer of Senegalese origin, who has 162.2 million followers on TikTok, the largest on this platform, "left the United States" after receiving the permission.
As of Saturday afternoon, Lame had not posted any comment on the incident.
Since returning to the White House last January, U.S. President Donald Trump has fulfilled his campaign promises by tightening immigration controls and launching a mass deportation campaign from the United States, some aspects of which have been challenged in U.S. courts.
Lame, who was appointed a UNICEF ambassador at the end of January, became famous for his short, silent videos that mock educational programs and advice that complicate simple tasks and are widely circulated on the internet. In his clips, Lame offers easy solutions to what these educational programs complicate, expressing his astonishment with a gesture of raising both hands towards the sky, accompanied by a smile that conveys the same meaning and wide eyes that also reflect surprise.
The idea of entering the world of TikTok came to Lame when he was confused about his situation in his family's modest home in Chivasso near Turin (northern Italy), after losing his job as a mechanic at a factory in March 2020, at the onset of the COVID pandemic.
His videos have achieved great success, allowing him to earn a substantial income, as he made approximately $16.5 million from collaboration contracts with companies between June 2022 and September 2023, according to estimates by Forbes magazine.
