أفادت تقارير إخبارية، (الجمعة)، أن نجم كرة القدم الإنجليزي ديفيد بيكهام، سيحصل على لقب فارس ضمن جوائز عيد ميلاد الملك.
وكشفت صحيفة «الصن» البريطانية أن قائد منتخب إنجلترا السابق سيظهر على القائمة التي ستنشر الأسبوع القادم، بعد أن سبق أن تم منحه وسام الإمبراطورية البريطانية عام 2003.
وسبق لبيكهام، الذي خاض 115 مباراة دولية مع المنتخب الإنجليزي وقام بأعمال خيرية واسعة، أن ترشح لنيل لقب فارس منذ أكثر من عقد.
وسيحصل سفير (اليونيسف) للنوايا الحسنة، الذي بلغ الخمسين من عمره في مايو الماضي، على لقب «سير»، بينما ستحصل زوجته، فيكتوريا بيكهام، نجمة فرقة «سبايس غيرلز» الاستعراضية السابقة، على لقب «ليدي بيكهام».
وكان بيكهام على وشك الحصول على لقب فارس ضمن قائمة جوائز رأس السنة الجديدة لعام 2014، لكن هيئة الإيرادات والجمارك البريطانية وضعت علامة حمراء على ترشيحه بسبب تورطه في مخطط مزعوم للتهرب الضريبي، وفقا لتقارير سابقة.
وتعززت التكهنات بشأن ترشيح بيكهام لنيل لقب فارس بعد إعلانه اعتزال كرة القدم عام 2013.
وأظهرت لقطات نشرتها صحيفة «الصن» للملك تشارلز الثالث وهو يسأل بيكهام إن كان قد «تلقى هدية عيد ميلاده الخمسين»، خلال محادثة في معرض تشيلسي للزهور الشهر الماضي.
News reports indicated on Friday that English football star David Beckham will receive a knighthood as part of the King's Birthday Honors.
The British newspaper "The Sun" revealed that the former England captain will appear on the list to be published next week, after previously being awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2003.
Beckham, who has played 115 international matches for the England team and has engaged in extensive charitable work, has been nominated for a knighthood for over a decade.
The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, who turned fifty last May, will receive the title "Sir," while his wife, Victoria Beckham, former star of the Spice Girls, will receive the title "Lady Beckham."
Beckham was on the verge of receiving a knighthood in the New Year Honors list for 2014, but the British Revenue and Customs placed a red flag on his nomination due to his alleged involvement in a tax evasion scheme, according to previous reports.
Speculation about Beckham's nomination for a knighthood intensified after he announced his retirement from football in 2013.
Footage published by "The Sun" showed King Charles III asking Beckham if he had "received a gift for his fiftieth birthday" during a conversation at the Chelsea Flower Show last month.
