طبّقت شركتا غوغل وميتا قيوداً جديدة لتشغيل تطبيقي يوتيوب وواتساب في عدد من هواتف آيفون القديمة، مما يشكّل تحديًا للمستخدمين الذين ما زالوا يعتمدون على هذه الهواتف منذ سنوات.
وأطلقت غوغل تحديثاً جديداً لتطبيق يوتيوب في نظام iOS يحمل الرقم 20.22.1، وأصبح يتطلب تثبيت نظام iOS 16 على الأقل من أجل تشغيله، بعد أن كان يكتفي بإصدار iOS 15. وبذلك، لم يعد التطبيق متوافقاً مع هواتف مثل آيفون 6s وآيفون 6s بلس، وآيفون 7 وآيفون 7 بلس، والجيل الأول من آيفون SE، إلى جانب الجيل السابع من جهاز آيبود تاتش، وآيباد آير 2، وآيباد ميني 4.
وما زالت النسخ القديمة من تطبيق يوتيوب تعمل في هذه الأجهزة، لكن المستخدمين لن يحصلوا بعد الآن على أي مزايا جديدة أو تحسينات مستقبلية، مع التحذير من أن التطبيق قد يتوقف كلياً في وقت لاحق. ويمكن لهؤلاء المستخدمين اللجوء إلى نسخة الويب من يوتيوب، ولكنها تفتقر إلى كثير من مزايا التطبيق الحديثة.
وفي السياق ذاته، أعلنت شركة ميتا إيقاف دعم تطبيق واتساب هواتف آيفون التي تعمل بنظام تشغيل أقدم من iOS 15.1، ابتداءً من مطلع يونيو الجاري. وبهذا القرار، لم يعد واتساب يعمل في هواتف آيفون 5s، وآيفون 6، وآيفون 6 بلس.
وسيحتاج مستخدمو هذه الهواتف إلى الترقية إلى هواتف أحدث لاستخدام التطبيق، مع إمكانية نقل المحادثات والوسائط إلى الهاتف الجديد باستخدام ميزة «نقل الدردشة» من واتساب، بعد عمل نسخة احتياطية عبر خدمة iCloud.
Google and Meta have implemented new restrictions for running the YouTube and WhatsApp applications on a number of older iPhone models, posing a challenge for users who have relied on these phones for years.
Google has released a new update for the YouTube app on iOS, version 20.22.1, which now requires at least iOS 16 to operate, whereas it previously only needed iOS 15. As a result, the app is no longer compatible with phones such as the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, the first generation of iPhone SE, as well as the seventh generation of iPod Touch, iPad Air 2, and iPad Mini 4.
Older versions of the YouTube app still work on these devices, but users will no longer receive any new features or future improvements, with a warning that the app may cease to function entirely at a later date. These users can turn to the web version of YouTube, but it lacks many of the modern features of the app.
In the same context, Meta announced the discontinuation of support for the WhatsApp application on iPhones running an operating system older than iOS 15.1, starting from the beginning of June. With this decision, WhatsApp no longer works on iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.
Users of these phones will need to upgrade to newer devices to use the app, with the option to transfer chats and media to the new phone using WhatsApp's "Chat Transfer" feature, after making a backup via iCloud.
