يشارك المنتخب السعودي تحت (16) عاماً في بطولة كأس اتحاد غرب آسيا تحت (17) عاماً، التي تنطلق اليوم بمشاركة منتخبات الأردن (المستضيف)، والعراق، ولبنان، والكويت، وسورية، وفلسطين.
ويأتي قرار الاتحاد السعودي ممثلاً باللجنة الفنية بالمشاركة في البطولة بفئة عمرية أقل؛ بهدف إعداد منتخب منافس في بطولة كأس آسيا تحت (17) عاماً التي ستقام في المملكة العربية السعودية والمؤهلة إلى كأس العالم (2026) في قطر.
ويشارك أخضر تحت (16) عاماً في البطولة بهدف الاحتكاك مع لاعبين أكبر بالفئة العمرية، واكتساب الخبرة اللازمة في مواجهة منتخبات قوية تمتلك تجارب متنوعة؛ مما يسهم في رفع الجاهزية الفنية والبدنية للاعبين، وتعزيز الانسجام داخل المجموعة قبل الاستحقاقات القارية المقبلة.
كما تمثل البطولة فرصة للجهاز الفني للوقوف على مستويات اللاعبين وتقييم الأداء في بيئة تنافسية حقيقية، تمهيداً لبناء منتخب قادر على المنافسة في بطولة كأس آسيا تحت (17) عاماً التي ستقام العام المقبل في السعودية، وما يليها من استحقاقات إقليمية وقارية مقبلة.
The Saudi national team under (16) years old participates in the West Asian Football Federation Cup under (17) years old, which kicks off today with the participation of the teams from Jordan (the host), Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait, Syria, and Palestine.
The decision by the Saudi Federation, represented by the technical committee, to participate in the tournament with a younger age category aims to prepare a competitive team for the Asian Cup under (17) years old, which will be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is a qualifier for the World Cup (2026) in Qatar.
The under (16) Green team participates in the tournament with the goal of interacting with older players in the age category and gaining the necessary experience in facing strong teams with diverse experiences; this contributes to enhancing the technical and physical readiness of the players and improving cohesion within the group before the upcoming continental challenges.
The tournament also represents an opportunity for the coaching staff to assess the players' levels and evaluate performance in a real competitive environment, paving the way for building a team capable of competing in the Asian Cup under (17) years old, which will be held next year in Saudi Arabia, along with the upcoming regional and continental challenges.
