Al-Qadisiyah succeeded in signing the Italian international striker Matteo Retegui, a player from Atalanta and the top scorer in the Italian league, to join the team as a replacement for the Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is heading towards mutually terminating his contract.
The negotiations between the management of Al-Qadisiyah and the management of Atalanta began after the Al-Qadisiyah administration submitted a contract worth 40 million euros, which was rejected by the Italian club's management. The Al-Qadisiyah side continued to raise the amount until both parties agreed on a figure of 67 million euros.
The Italian striker Matteo Retegui (25 years old), who was born in Argentina and holds both Italian and Argentine citizenship, began his football career with Boca Juniors, then moved to Estudiantes before shining with Tigre in the 2022 season. This opened the doors for him to join the Italian national team under former coach Roberto Mancini in the summer of 2023, making his name shine in Italian football and joining Genoa. He then transferred to Atalanta in the summer of 2024 for 28 million euros, having an exceptional season in which he scored 25 goals and was crowned the top scorer in the Italian league. He also scored 3 goals in the UEFA Champions League, making him a target for Al-Qadisiyah to lead the team's attacking line, which is set to participate in three local competitions: the King Abdulaziz Cup, in which they finished as runners-up last season, the Saudi Super Cup in their first appearance in this tournament, in addition to the Roshan Saudi Professional League.
The Al-Qadisiyah signings will not stop, as the club's management seeks to equip the team with distinguished local and foreign players to continue the brilliance that began last season, which drew attention at the time and was close to achieving a title at the very least.
