The Brazilian Fluminense team's head coach Renato Gaúcho confirmed that facing Al-Hilal in the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be difficult and complex, emphasizing his full respect for the Saudi team, which has deservedly reached this stage after its remarkable victory over Manchester City in the Round of 16.
Gaúcho explained during the press conference held on the eve of the match that Al-Hilal is a distinguished team with great potential, and has shown significant improvement in its performance throughout the tournament. He said: "Al-Hilal qualified deservedly just like us, and we know that the match could go into extra time or be decided by penalties. We have worked on studying our opponent and have carefully devised our strategy to reach the semi-finals."
He pointed out that both teams share the same ambition, but the outcome will be determined on the pitch. He said: "We have a clear style that relies on possession and direct pressing when losing the ball, as was the case against Dortmund and Inter, and we are working to prevent Al-Hilal from exploiting counter-attacks, given their great speed and high ability to transition to offense."
Gaúcho indicated that Al-Hilal relies on space to execute its attacks, stressing that he has urged his players not to give the opponent any opportunity, even for ten seconds. He added: "I asked the players for complete focus throughout the match, as any moment of distraction could make a difference against a team like Al-Hilal."
The Fluminense coach praised the significant work done by Italian coach Simone Inzaghi with Al-Hilal, saying: "Inzaghi is a capable coach who has delivered wonderful performances in Italy and continues his success with Al-Hilal. The odds in this match are completely equal."
Gaúcho spoke about the Brazilian players in Al-Hilal's ranks, Marcos Leonardo and Malcom Felipe, confirming that they possess intelligence and experience, representing a significant addition to the team and capable of making a difference in this tournament.
He also valued the leadership role played by Brazilian defender Thiago Silva within Fluminense, describing him as "the coach on the field," noting that he still has the ability to represent the Brazilian national team.
Gaúcho concluded his remarks by saying: "There is no benefit in comparing Al-Hilal to teams like Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain, as results determine the best. Al-Hilal has proven its worth against Manchester City, and we respect them and look forward to delivering a great match that befits this stage of the tournament."
