خسر منتخبنا الوطني الأول لكرة القدم مواجهته أمام المكسيك بهدفين دون مقابل وذلك في اللقاء الذي جمع بينهما على ملعب ستيت فارم ضمن لقاءات دور الثمانية للكأس الذهبية (الكونكاكاف) والمقامة حالياً في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.
شهد اللقاء سيطرة ميدانية لمنتخب المكسيك وسط تراجع لعناصر الأخضر السعودي لامتصاص الحماس المكسيكي وتألق عبدالإله العمري في إبعاد أولى الكرات الخطرة، ومن ثم أنقذ علي مجرشي مرمى المنتخب السعودي بلعبة مقصية، وتواصل الضغط المكسيكي ليتألق الحارس نواف العقيدي ويبعد إحدى الكرات لركلة زاوية، وقبل نهاية الشوط الأول تعرض سعود عبدالحميد للضرب باليد من المكسيكي خيسوس غالاردو إلا إن الحكم الأمريكي لوكاش شبالا تغاضى عن الأمر وكأن شيئاً لم يكن، ومن هجمة مرتدة سدد اليكسيس فيغا كرة أرضية تصدى لها الحارس العقيدي ولكنها عادت لفيغا ليسكنها الشباك كهدف أول للمكسيك (د: 49)، وبعد خمس دقائق من الهدف الأول للمكسيك تعرض مدافع الأخضر عبدالإله العمري للإصابة ليغادر الملعب ويحل بدلاً عنه المدافع محمد سليمان بكر، وكاد المنتخب السعودي أن يدرك التعادل ولكن عرضية سعود عبدالحميد مرت من فوق المهاجمين، ومن كرة عرضية للمنتخب المكسيكي لم يحسن المدافع عبدالله مادو التعامل معها ليسكنها في شباك منتخبنا بالخطأ هدفا ثانيا لمنتخب المكسيك (د: 81)، لينتهي اللقاء بفوز المكسيك بهدفين دون مقابل.
وبهذه النتيجة يتأهل المنتخب المكسيكي لدور نصف النهائي ويضرب موعداً مع منتخب الهندوراس الذي تغلب على منتخب بنما بركلات الترجيح، فيما غادر منتخبنا الوطني البطولة بعد أن قدم مستوى مشرفا تمكن من خلاله تجاوز دور المجموعات رغم الغيابات والإصابات التي داهمت صفوف الأخضر السعودي.
Our national football team lost to Mexico by two goals to none in the match held at State Farm Stadium as part of the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup (CONCACAF), currently taking place in the United States of America.
The match witnessed a field dominance by the Mexican team, while the Saudi Green team retreated to absorb the Mexican enthusiasm. Abdulilah Al-Amri excelled in clearing the first dangerous balls, and then Ali Majrashi saved the Saudi goal with an acrobatic kick. The Mexican pressure continued, leading to goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi shining as he deflected one of the balls for a corner kick. Before the end of the first half, Saud Abdulhamid was struck by the Mexican Jesus Gallardo, but the American referee Lukasz Szpala ignored the incident as if nothing had happened. From a counter-attack, Alexis Vega shot a ground ball that was saved by goalkeeper Al-Aqidi, but it returned to Vega, who found the net for Mexico's first goal (49'). Five minutes after Mexico's first goal, Saudi defender Abdulilah Al-Amri was injured and left the field, replaced by defender Mohammed Suleiman Bakr. The Saudi team nearly equalized, but Saud Abdulhamid's cross went over the attackers. From a cross by the Mexican team, defender Abdullah Madu mishandled it, accidentally putting it into our net for Mexico's second goal (81'), ending the match with Mexico winning by two goals to none.
With this result, the Mexican team qualifies for the semi-finals and will face the Honduras team, which defeated Panama in a penalty shootout, while our national team exited the tournament after presenting an honorable performance that allowed them to advance past the group stage despite the absences and injuries that plagued the Saudi Green team.
