شهدت مباراة اليوم الظهور الرسمي الأول للمدرب الألماني ماتياس يايسله على رأس القيادة الفنية لنيوكاسل، بعد إنهاء تعاقده مع الأهلي، كما سجل المدرب الإسباني أندوني إيراولا ظهوره الأول مع ليفربول.

افتتح أنتوني إيلانغا التسجيل لنيوكاسل بعد خمس دقائق فقط من انطلاق المباراة، قبل أن يدرك كودي غاكبو التعادل لصالح ليفربول في الدقيقة 55.
وبعدها بدقيقتين فقط، أعاد جو ويلوك نيوكاسل إلى المقدمة، لكن دومينيك سوبوسلاي أنقذ ليفربول من الهزيمة بتسجيله هدف التعادل من ركلة جزاء في الدقيقة 90+9.

Anthony Elanga opened the scoring for Newcastle just five minutes into the match, before Cody Gakpo equalized for Liverpool in the 55th minute.
Just two minutes later, Joe Willock put Newcastle back in the lead, but Dominik Szoboszlai saved Liverpool from defeat by scoring the equalizer from a penalty in the 90+9 minute.
