أعلن الكرواتي بويان بوغدانوفيتش اعتزاله كرة السلة نهائياً، بعد مسيرة احترافية امتدت لأكثر من عشرين عاماً، منها عشرة مواسم في دوري كرة السلة الأمريكي للمحترفين (NBA)، بسبب إصابة مزمنة في القدم اليسرى أجبرته على الخضوع لعمليتين جراحيتين خلال 14 شهراً، دون أن يتمكن من العودة إلى الملاعب.
بوغدانوفيتش، البالغ من العمر 36 عاماً، كتب عبر حساباته على منصات التواصل:
«أحياناً لا تختار اللحظة، بل هي من تختارك. وبعد محاولات لا تُحصى للعودة، حان الوقت لإغلاق هذا الفصل».
وُلد بوغدانوفيتش في مدينة موستار (البوسنة والهرسك)، وبرز اسمه على الساحة الدولية كلاعب في صفوف المنتخب الكرواتي. بدأ مسيرته مع نادي مدينته، قبل أن ينتقل إلى ريال مدريد الإسباني، ثم زغرب الكرواتي وفنربخشه التركي، حيث حقق ألقاباً محلية بارزة.
دخل بوغدانوفيتش عالم الـNBA عام 2014 عبر بوابة بروكلين نتس، ثم تنقل بين عدة أندية بارزة شملت واشنطن ويزاردز، إنديانا بيسرز، يوتاه جاز، ديترويت بيستونز، ونيويورك نيكس. لكنه لم يخُض أي مباراة بعد عودته الأخيرة إلى بروكلين في صفقة تبادلية، بسبب تكرار إصابة القدم التي خضع بسببها لعملية جديدة في فبراير الماضي.
شارك بوغدانوفيتش في 719 مباراة خلال مسيرته في الدوري الأمريكي، بمعدل 15.6 نقطة، و3.6 متابعات، و1.7 تمريرة حاسمة في المباراة الواحدة. وحقق أعلى معدلاته التهديفية مع ديترويت في موسم 2022-2023 بمتوسط 21.6 نقطة في اللقاء.
كما بلغ الأدوار الإقصائية (البلاي أوف) سبع مرات ممثلاً لخمسة فرق مختلفة، وكتب في رسالته الوداعية:
«كل محطة تركت بصمتها، وكل قميص حمل ثقله الخاص».
واختتم رسالته برسالة مؤثرة:
«أغلق هذا الفصل، لكن حبي للعبة باقٍ. لم أصل إلى النهاية، بل وصلت إلى الجانب الآخر من البداية».
اعتزال بوغدانوفيتش يضع نهاية لمسيرة امتزجت فيها التجربة الأوروبية بالاحتراف الأمريكي، لتشكل واحدة من أبرز الحكايات الكروية في جيله.
The Croatian Bojan Bogdanović announced his retirement from basketball permanently, after a professional career that spanned more than twenty years, including ten seasons in the NBA, due to a chronic injury in his left foot that forced him to undergo two surgeries within 14 months, without being able to return to the courts.
Bogdanović, who is 36 years old, wrote on his social media accounts:
“Sometimes you don’t choose the moment; it chooses you. After countless attempts to return, it’s time to close this chapter.”
Bogdanović was born in the city of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and he made a name for himself internationally as a player for the Croatian national team. He began his career with his hometown club before moving to Real Madrid in Spain, then to Zagreb in Croatia and Fenerbahçe in Turkey, where he achieved prominent local titles.
He entered the NBA in 2014 through the Brooklyn Nets, then moved between several notable teams including the Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, and New York Knicks. However, he did not play any games after his recent return to Brooklyn in a trade deal, due to the recurring foot injury that required him to undergo another surgery last February.
Bogdanović participated in 719 games during his career in the league, averaging 15.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He achieved his highest scoring averages with Detroit in the 2022-2023 season with an average of 21.6 points per game.
He also reached the playoffs seven times representing five different teams, and he wrote in his farewell message:
“Every stop left its mark, and every jersey carried its own weight.”
He concluded his message with an emotional note:
“I close this chapter, but my love for the game remains. I have not reached the end; I have reached the other side of the beginning.”
Bogdanović's retirement marks the end of a career that blended European experience with American professionalism, forming one of the most prominent football stories of his generation.
