سجّل السباح الروماني دافيد بوبوفيتشي، البالغ من العمر 20 عامًا، ثاني أسرع زمن في تاريخ سباق 100 متر حرة، محققًا 46.71 ثانية، وذلك خلال مشاركته في بطولة أوروبا للسباحة تحت 23 عامًا المقامة حاليًا في مدينة سامورين السلوفاكية.
ويقترب بوبوفيتشي بهذا الإنجاز من الرقم القياسي العالمي المسجل باسم الصيني بان جانلي، البالغ 46.40 ثانية، والذي أحرزه في أولمبياد باريس الصيف الماضي.
ويُعد هذا التوقيت الجديد رقمًا قياسيًا أوروبيًا، متجاوزًا الرقم السابق لبوبوفيتشي نفسه، والذي حققه عام 2022 (46.86 ثانية). يُذكر أن السباح الروماني توّج بذهبية أولمبياد باريس 2024 في سباق 200 متر حرة، ونال برونزية 100 متر في ذات الدورة خلف كل من بان جانلي والأسترالي كايل تشالمرز.

The 20-year-old Romanian swimmer David Popovici recorded the second fastest time in the history of the 100-meter freestyle, achieving 46.71 seconds during his participation in the European Swimming Championships for under 23s currently taking place in the Slovak city of Samorin.
With this achievement, Popovici is closing in on the world record held by the Chinese swimmer Pan Zhanle, which stands at 46.40 seconds, set during the Paris Olympics last summer.
This new time is a European record, surpassing Popovici's previous record of 46.86 seconds, which he achieved in 2022. It is worth mentioning that the Romanian swimmer won the gold medal in the 200-meter freestyle at the Paris 2024 Olympics and took home the bronze in the 100-meter event behind both Pan Zhanle and Australian Kyle Chalmers.
