The Media Verification Center affiliated with the Yemeni Ministry of Information has uncovered a disinformation campaign led by accounts linked to the Houthi terrorist militia across social media platforms, following the circulation of claims that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has allowed the recruitment of Yemeni domestic workers by issuing visas for Yemeni women to work in homes.
The center confirmed that the circulating claims are misleading and taken out of their true context, indicating that the Houthi accounts deliberately distorted the content of an announcement regarding the regularization of the status of Yemeni residents in the Kingdom, with the aim of stirring public opinion and spreading false information.
Distortion of the "Musanid" Announcement
The center clarified that the publisher of the announcement on the "Musanid" platform confirmed that the purpose of allowing applications for Yemeni caregivers is to regularize their illegal residency in the Kingdom, and not to open the door for the recruitment of domestic workers from Yemen, as claimed by the Houthi accounts.
It pointed out that the opportunity was provided under the title "Domestic Caregivers," not "Domestic Workers," in an attempt to clarify the reality of the announcement that was circulated out of context.
"Domestic Caregiver" Not "Domestic Worker"
The verification center indicated that the term "Domestic Caregiver" refers to a woman who resides with her husband and children in the Kingdom and takes care of her children in her home, rather than working for another family.
It added that this title is equivalent to what Yemenis call "Housewife," confirming that the Kingdom has adopted the profession of women under the title "Domestic Caregiver," according to the published clarification.
Houthi Deception to Divert Attention from Taiz
The center warned against falling for the misleading information promoted by networks linked to the Houthi terrorist militia, urging social media users to verify the accuracy of information before reposting it.
The center accused the Houthi networks of deliberately promoting these claims to stir public opinion and divert the attention of Yemenis from the bloody events perpetrated by the militia in Taiz Governorate, by fabricating media issues aimed at misleading followers and distorting the facts.
