Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia today (Thursday) of deliberately inflicting the highest possible casualties among civilians, following the launch of three ballistic missiles with cluster warheads on Kyiv, coinciding with attacks on several Ukrainian cities and regions.
Zelensky stated in a post on the "X" platform that the missiles are designed to explode in the air and spread damage over a radius of about 400 meters, emphasizing that the targeted area does not contain military objectives, and accusing Moscow of continuing the war without any signs of a genuine desire to end it.
He pointed to the targeting of a passenger train in Kharkiv, and sites in Dnipro, Marhanets, Mykolaiv, and Kherson, among other areas, noting that more than 170 strikes have targeted Ukrainian energy facilities since October 11.
Zelensky called on his country's partners to expedite the delivery of planned defensive aid, directing the Ministry of Defense, military leadership, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to keep them informed of the latest battlefield developments and threats, based on intelligence information.
In contrast, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that reaching a settlement for the conflict faces significant challenges, asserting that any solution must address what he described as the "root causes" of the crisis to ensure a sustainable resolution.
Ryabkov added, during an economic forum in Nizhny Novgorod, that Moscow is seeking a way out of the crisis and its repercussions, but insists on the necessity of addressing the factors that led to the outbreak of the conflict, whether through political and diplomatic channels or by other means if political efforts falter, according to the TASS agency.
The statements come amid the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war that erupted in February 2022, alongside diplomatic efforts aimed at ending it.
