President Donald Trump arrived in Sharm El Sheikh today (Monday), where he was welcomed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the airport tarmac, who accompanied him by car to the summit venue at the International Conference Hall.
After their arrival at the summit venue, the two presidents held a press conference in which Trump confirmed that the Middle East is going through a very distinctive period.
Trump stated, "There is a lot of rubble and debris in Gaza, and the area needs a cleanup," explaining that he would discuss with the leaders present in Sharm El Sheikh the reconstruction of Gaza.
He noted that there are teams searching for the bodies of Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
In response to a question about the possibility of striking a deal with Iran, Trump told reporters, "Throughout my life, I have made deals, and Iran wants to make a deal," clarifying that Iran has expressed its support for the Gaza agreement.
He added, "The Gaza agreement could not have been reached without the strike against Iran's nuclear facilities," pointing out that Iran cannot cope with the tough sanctions he has imposed.
Trump emphasized, saying, "I believe Iran will join the path of peace while suffering from the sanctions," praising Egypt's extremely important role in communicating with Hamas.
For his part, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed the need for President Trump's support for the Gaza reconstruction conference, stressing, "We must ensure that aid enters Gaza and that the bodies of the Israeli hostages are delivered to their families."
Sisi said, "President Trump is the only one capable of achieving peace in the region," adding, "The Gaza agreement is a wonderful achievement, and we appreciate what President Trump has accomplished."
On another note, U.S. envoy to the Middle East, Steve Wittekov, said, "We are working on implementing the Gaza agreement, and I will remain in the region with Jared Kushner for some time."
