The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed that the Egyptian army does not fear challenges and is committed to its mission of protecting the country and safeguarding its borders.
He emphasized, in a speech on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the October War of 1973 today (Monday), that the regional situation can no longer tolerate laxity, and that the circumstances require us to be up to the responsibility and draw inspiration from the spirit of October to help us overcome the challenges. El-Sisi said: "In light of the crises the region is experiencing, we are in dire need to invoke the principles of October, to recall them, and to apply them in our political life."
He added: "Egypt and Israel have fought fierce wars and military conflicts in which both sides paid heavy prices in blood and destruction, and the animosity could have continued and deepened were it not for the foresight of President Mohamed Anwar Sadat, the wisdom of the Israeli leaders at the time, and the American mediation that paved the way for a just and courageous peace that ended the cycle of revenge, broke the wall of hostility, and opened a new chapter in history."
El-Sisi addressed the Egyptian people by saying: "I assure you that the Egyptian army is committed to its mission of protecting the country and safeguarding its borders, and it does not fear challenges. It is a national army from the heart of this great people, and its sons carry their lives in their hands and stand like a solid dam against all difficulties and threats."
Initiative to End the Gaza War
The Egyptian president expressed his greetings and appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump for his initiative aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza after two years of war, extermination, killing, and destruction.
He confirmed that a ceasefire, the return of prisoners and detainees, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the initiation of a peaceful political path leading to the establishment of the Palestinian state and its recognition mean that we are on the right path towards lasting peace and enduring stability, which is what we all aspire to. He added: "Reconciliation, not confrontation, is the way to build a secure future."
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the peace framework established by the United States since the 1970s, which formed a strategic framework for regional stability.
Independent Palestinian State
He stated that expanding the scope of this framework can only be achieved by strengthening its foundations based on justice and ensuring the rights of the peoples of the region to live, and cooperating to end conflicts and unleash the energies of prosperity, integration, and flourishing throughout the region.
President El-Sisi mentioned that the Egyptian experience in peace with Israel was not merely an agreement, but the establishment of a just peace that solidified stability, proving that fairness is the only path to lasting peace; it is a historical model to be emulated in the making of true peace.
He concluded his speech by reaffirming his steadfast belief that true peace in the Middle East will only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with the references of international legitimacy and in a manner that restores rights to their rightful owners.
