أعرب رئيس وزراء بريطانيا كير ستارمر عن فزعه البالغ إزاء هجوم وقع قرب كنيس
يهودي في مانشستر اليوم (الخميس)، مؤكداً أن الهجوم وقوع في يوم احتفال ديني يهودي وهو يوم الغفران (يوم كيبور).
وذكر ستارمر الذي قطع زيارته إلى كوبنهاجن عائداً إلى بريطانيا، أنه سينشر المزيد من قوات الشرطة لحراسة المعابد اليهودية، موضحاً أنه سيعقد اجتماعاً للجنة الطوارئ الحكومية، بحسب شبكة «سكاي نيوز» البريطانية.
قتلى وجرحى في هجوم
أعلنت شرطة مدينة مانشستر البريطانية، وفاة شخصين بعد حادثة طعن خارج كنيس يهودي في شارع «ميدلتون»، فيما يعتقد أن منفذ الهجوم، قضى بعدما أطلقت الشرطة النار عليه، غير أن شهود عيان قالوا إنهم شاهدوا المسعفين يقدمون الرعاية الطبية لعدد من الأشخاص، بينهم أربعة أصيبوا بجروح نتيجة الطعن.
ودعت الشرطة المواطنين إلى تجنب المنطقة لحين الانتهاء من التعامل مع الحادثة.
وذكرت الشرطة أنها استدعت وحدة تفكيك القنابل إلى مكان الحادثة، إذ إن المهاجم زعم أن لديه قنبلة، قبل أن ترديه الشرطة.
وقالت الشرطة البريطانية إنه ورد بلاغ عن سيارة دهست مارة إضافة إلى طعن أفراد قرب كنيس يهودي في مانشستر في شمال غرب إنجلترا، مبيناً أن أفرادها أطلقوا النار على المشتبه به ولقي حتفه.
حادثة خطيرة
وقال رئيس بلدية مانشستر الكبرى في تصريحات إعلامية: يعتقد أن المشتبه به في حادثة الطعن قد توفي جراء إصابته، فيما وصف عمدة مانشستر الكبرى، آندي بيرنهام، الحادثة بـ«الخطيرة»، ونصح الناس بتجنب المنطقة، فيما قالت هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية إن الخطر المباشر يبدو أنه قد زال والحادثة تم التعامل معها «بفعالية» من قبل المتواجدين في الموقع وشرطة مانشستر الكبرى.
تقييم الوضع
وأدانت السفارة الإسرائيلية في لندن الحادثة، في حين أصدرت خدمة إسعاف شمال غربي إنجلترا بياناً أكدت فيه وقوع حادثة كبيرة في كرامبسال، مانشستر، مبينة أن بلاغات وردت عن وقوع حادثة في طريق ميدلتون في كرامبسال، وأرسلت الخدمة فرقاً إلى موقع الحادثة ونحن نقيم الوضع حالياً ونعمل مع فرق الطوارئ الأخرى، وأولويتنا هي ضمان حصول الناس على المساعدة الطبية التي يحتاجونها في أسرع وقت ممكن.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his deep alarm over an attack that occurred near a
Jewish synagogue in Manchester today (Thursday), confirming that the attack took place on a day of Jewish religious celebration, which is Yom Kippur.
Starmer, who cut short his visit to Copenhagen to return to Britain, stated that he would deploy more police forces to guard Jewish temples, explaining that he would hold a meeting of the government emergency committee, according to British Sky News.
Casualties in the Attack
The police in Manchester announced the deaths of two individuals following a stabbing incident outside a Jewish synagogue on Middleton Street, while it is believed that the attacker was killed after police shot him. However, eyewitnesses reported seeing paramedics providing medical care to several people, including four who were injured as a result of the stabbing.
The police urged citizens to avoid the area until the situation was resolved.
The police reported that they had summoned a bomb disposal unit to the scene, as the attacker claimed to have a bomb before being shot by the police.
British police stated that reports had been received of a vehicle hitting pedestrians in addition to stabbings near a Jewish synagogue in Manchester in northwest England, indicating that their officers shot the suspect, who subsequently died.
Serious Incident
The Mayor of Greater Manchester stated in media remarks: It is believed that the suspect in the stabbing incident may have died from his injuries, while Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham described the incident as "serious," advising people to avoid the area. The BBC reported that the immediate danger appears to have passed and the incident was handled "effectively" by those present at the scene and Greater Manchester Police.
Situation Assessment
The Israeli embassy in London condemned the incident, while the North West Ambulance Service issued a statement confirming that a major incident had occurred in Crumpsall, Manchester, indicating that reports had been received about an incident on Middleton Road in Crumpsall. The service sent teams to the scene, and we are currently assessing the situation and working with other emergency teams, with our priority being to ensure that people receive the medical assistance they need as quickly as possible.
