While Iran and the European troika are holding a new round of nuclear talks in Geneva tomorrow (Tuesday), a French diplomat considered that Tehran is facing its last opportunity to avoid sanctions, emphasizing that the upcoming session represents the last open window for the Iranian side.

The diplomatic source stated today (Monday): "Nothing prevents the re-imposition of sanctions on Tehran," adding that the re-imposition of all sanctions that were lifted ten years ago will not require the consensus of the five permanent members of the Security Council, indicating that Russia and China will not be able to use their veto to obstruct the European step. He confirmed that the open window for Iran will close, and nothing now prevents the re-imposition of sanctions. The source ruled out the resumption of negotiations between the United States and Iran in the near future, as "there is no prospect for their resumption in the short term."

Iran announced that nuclear talks will be held tomorrow in Geneva with the European troika (France, Germany, and Britain). This new round comes after a previous round that took place last July in Istanbul at the level of deputy foreign ministers. Iran will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, according to Tasnim news agency.

Takht-Ravanchi had shown flexibility in previous statements regarding the possibility that his country might agree to reduce some of its nuclear activities in exchange for lifting Western sanctions.

The anticipated meeting is taking place months before the deadline for reactivating the "snapback mechanism" stipulated in the nuclear agreement in October, and after representatives of the "European troika" held previous negotiations with Tehran, but they failed to play a mediating role between Tehran and Washington to conclude a new agreement regarding the Iranian nuclear issue.

The three European countries had previously threatened to activate the "snapback mechanism," which was part of the 2015 international agreement, allowing the re-imposition of UN Security Council sanctions on Tehran if it does not comply with the terms of the agreement. They offered to extend the deadline for re-imposing sanctions in October if Iran resumes nuclear talks with Washington and re-establishes communication with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Meanwhile, a member of the Iranian Expediency Discernment Council, Mohammad Sadr, made unprecedented accusations against Russia, stating in press remarks last night (Sunday) that Russia provided Israel with information about air defense centers in Iran.

He added that the war with Israel revealed that the strategic alliance with Moscow is worthless.

He accused Israel of assassinating former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, saying: "From the very first moment, I said this is an assassination... by Israel." He stated that the Israeli side sent a practical message through this assassination: "If Tehran continues... we will also continue."

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Bezhaskian signed a strategic partnership treaty between the two countries in Moscow on January 17, aimed at strengthening their relationship, especially in the field of military cooperation.
