Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to head to Washington next Monday to meet with his American counterpart Donald Trump, as announced by both presidents following a phone call that included European leaders after the Alaska summit. Zelensky expressed his support for holding a trilateral summit between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia. He stated in a post on X platform today (Saturday) that Kyiv is ready for constructive cooperation and supports the idea of a trilateral summit between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia. Zelensky disclosed that he will travel to Washington on Monday to discuss ending the killing and war with Trump.

Zelensky wrote: “Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work as hard as possible to achieve peace.” He added: “We support President Trump’s proposal to hold a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.” He indicated that his country confirms that key issues can be discussed at the leaders' level, and that the trilateral summit is suitable for that.

Zelensky explained that Trump briefed him on the main points of his discussions with Putin, emphasizing that the phone call with Trump and the European leaders discussed positive signals from America regarding security guarantees.

The Ukrainian president stressed the necessity for Europe to be part of the talks at all stages. He emphasized that Kyiv needs real and lasting peace, not just "temporary quiet periods" between Russian attacks. He said, "Security must be reliably guaranteed in the long term, with the participation of both Europe and the United States."

Earlier, President Trump stated that if things go well on Monday afternoon after his meeting with Zelensky, a date for a trilateral summit with President Putin will be set. He described the meeting with Putin in Alaska as "excellent," as he put it, confirming that the late-night phone call with Zelensky was also positive. Trump announced that the views aligned in the meeting with Putin that the best way to end the war between Russia and Ukraine is through a comprehensive peace agreement, not just a ceasefire agreement.

Previously, the White House announced that Trump had a lengthy phone call with Zelensky. It added that Trump then spoke to NATO leaders following a summit he held with Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday (Friday). A spokesperson for the European Commission confirmed that Trump briefed the European leaders on the outcomes of his summit with Putin.
