أعلن الجيش الأمريكي، اليوم (الأربعاء)، سقوط ضحايا في حادثة إطلاق نار نشط داخل قاعدة فورت ستيوارت العسكرية في ولاية جورجيا، مؤكداً إغلاق القاعدة بالكامل.
وذكر الجيش الأمريكي في منشور على حسابه في الفيسبوك: تم إغلاق القاعدة بالكامل في تمام الساعة 11:04 صباحاً بالتوقيت المحلي، وتتواجد قوات إنفاذ القانون في موقع الحادثة التي وقعت في منطقة اللواء القتالي المدرع الثاني، ولم يتوفر على الفور أي تفاصيل إضافية حول عدد الضحايا أو طبيعة إصاباتهم. لكن العديد من الصفحات الإخبارية المحلية تداولت مقطع فيديو لجنود قالت إنهم كانوا يهرعون داخل القاعدة إثر سماع دوي إطلاق النار.
وقالت قاعدة فورت ستيوارت في جورجيا الأمريكية، التي تضم 20 ألف جندي: مطلق النار في إحدى منشآتنا لا يزال طليقاً، مؤكدة إغلاق جميع البوابات في الوقت الحالي.
وأوضحت إن هناك بلاغات عن وقوع إصابات، والوضع لا يزال مستمراً، ولم يتضح بعد ما إذا كانت الإصابات تشمل جرحى فقط أم ضحايا أيضاً، لكن وسائل إعلام أمريكية تحدثت عن إصابة 5 جنود بالرصاص.
وطالبت القاعدة جميع الأفراد في المنطقة، التي فُرض عليها الإغلاق، البقاء في الداخل، وإغلاق وإحكام جميع النوافذ والأبواب، فيما قال المقدم أنجل تومكو: «نحن نقوم حالياً بتقييم الوضع، لكن يمكننا تأكيد وجود مطلق نار نشط».
وتقع قاعدة «فورت ستيوارت» على بُعد نحو 64 كيلومتراً جنوب غرب مدينة سافانا، وتُعدّ أكبر قاعدة للجيش الأمريكي شرق نهر المسيسيبي، وتضم آلاف الجنود المنتمين إلى الفرقة الثالثة للمشاة، إلى جانب عائلاتهم.
The U.S. Army announced today (Wednesday) that there are casualties in an active shooting incident inside Fort Stewart military base in Georgia, confirming that the base is completely locked down.
The U.S. Army stated in a post on its Facebook account: The base was fully locked down at 11:04 AM local time, and law enforcement is on the scene of the incident that occurred in the area of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team. No additional details were immediately available regarding the number of casualties or the nature of their injuries. However, several local news pages circulated a video of soldiers they said were rushing into the base after hearing gunfire.
Fort Stewart in Georgia, which houses 20,000 soldiers, stated: The shooter in one of our facilities is still at large, confirming that all gates are currently closed.
It clarified that there are reports of injuries, the situation is still ongoing, and it is not yet clear whether the injuries include only wounded individuals or also fatalities, but U.S. media reported that 5 soldiers were shot.
The base urged all individuals in the area that has been locked down to stay indoors and to secure all windows and doors. Colonel Angel Tomko stated: "We are currently assessing the situation, but we can confirm that there is an active shooter."
Fort Stewart is located about 64 kilometers southwest of Savannah and is the largest U.S. Army base east of the Mississippi River, housing thousands of soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division, along with their families.
