فيما اعتبر الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أن السبيل الأسرع لإنهاء الأزمة الإنسانية في قطاع غزة هو استسلام حركة حماس وإطلاق سراح الرهائن الإسرائيليين، وصل المبعوث الأمريكي للشرق الأوسط ستيف ويتكوف اليوم (الخميس) إلى إسرائيل لعقد اجتماعات رفيعة المستوى مع المسؤولين الإسرائيليين.
وذكرت صحيفة «يديعوت أحرونوت» الإسرائيلية أنه من المقرر أن يلتقي ويتكوف رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو في وقت لاحق اليوم لمناقشة الأوضاع الإنسانية في غزة والمحادثات الرامية إلى التوصل إلى وقف لإطلاق النار في القطاع.
وعرقل مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي في وقت متأخر أمس قرارين كان من شأنهما حظر مبيعات الأسلحة إلى إسرائيل رداً على قتل الفلسطينيين في قطاع غزة، إلا أنهما حظيا بدعم أكبر من إجراءات مماثلة شهدها الكونغرس في وقت سابق من هذا العام.
وقدم السيناتور بيرني ساندرز، وهو مستقل عن ولاية فيرمونت وداعم للديمقراطيين، القرارين، وجرت عرقلتهما بأغلبية 73 صوتاً مقابل 24، و70 صوتاً مقابل 27 في المجلس المؤلف من 100 عضو.
من جهة ثانية، بحث وزير الخارجية المصري بدر عبد العاطي اليوم مع نظيره الأمريكي ماركو روبيو في واشنطن تداعيات الحرب الإسرائيلية على قطاع غزة، والأزمة الإنسانية المتفاقمة في القطاع.
وذكرت وزارة الخارجية المصرية، في بيان، أن عبد العاطي شدد لروبيو على ضرورة التوصل لاتفاق دائم لوقف إطلاق النار في غزة، مؤكداً ضرورة حقن دماء الفلسطينيين وضمان تدفق المساعدات إلى القطاع في ظل ما يعانيه من أوضاع كارثية نتيجة لسياسة إسرائيلية ممنهجة للتجويع، وأهمية سرعة التعامل مع هذه الأزمة الإنسانية الملحة.
وشدد الوزير المصري على ضرورة طرح أفق سياسي لتحقيق تسوية عادلة ومستدامة للقضية الفلسطينية، واستعادة الشعب الفلسطيني حقوقه المشروعة، وعلى رأسها حقه في تقرير مصيره وإقامة دولته المستقلة على خطوط 4 يونيو 1967، وعاصمتها القدس الشرقية.
وأعرب عبد العاطي عن تطلع مصر لمواصلة العمل الوثيق مع الإدارة الأمريكية لإرساء أسس السلام العادل والشامل في الشرق الأوسط بما يحقق مصالح جميع شعوب المنطقة.
من جهة أخرى، وصف وزير الخارجية الفرنسي جان نويل بارو اليوم الأوضاع عند مراكز توزيع المساعدات التابعة لمؤسسة غزة الإنسانية في القطاع بأنها فضيحة ومخزية ويجب أن تتوقف.
وفي سياق آخر، حذّرت منظمة «أطباء بلا حدود» اليوم من تفاقم كارثة سوء التغذية والجوع بين الأطفال في قطاع غزة، موضحة أن عدد الأطفال دون سن الخامسة الذين يعانون من سوء تغذية حاد تضاعف 3 مرات خلال الأسابيع الماضية بغزة.
وأشارت إلى أن فرقها بقطاع غزة تستقبل يومياً 25 حالة سوء تغذية حاد جرّاء استمرار الحصار والهجمات الإسرائيلية، مؤكدة على لسان مسؤولة الاتصالات لمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا إيناس أبو خلف أن «الوضع في غزة كارثي بكل المقاييس، ويتدهور يوماً بعد يوم»، استناداً إلى مشاهدات فرق المنظمة العاملة في الميدان.

While U.S. President Donald Trump considered that the quickest way to end the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip is the surrender of Hamas and the release of Israeli hostages, U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Israel today (Thursday) for high-level meetings with Israeli officials.
The Israeli newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported that Witkoff is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later today to discuss the humanitarian situation in Gaza and talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire in the area.
The U.S. Senate late yesterday blocked two resolutions that would have banned arms sales to Israel in response to the killing of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip; however, they received more support than similar measures seen in Congress earlier this year.
Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont and a supporter of the Democrats, introduced the resolutions, which were blocked by a majority of 73 votes to 24, and 70 votes to 27 in the 100-member chamber.
On another front, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty discussed today with his U.S. counterpart Marco Rubio in Washington the repercussions of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and the worsening humanitarian crisis in the area.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that Abdel Aty emphasized to Rubio the necessity of reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza, stressing the need to stop the bloodshed of Palestinians and ensure the flow of aid to the area amid the catastrophic conditions resulting from a systematic Israeli policy of starvation, and the importance of quickly addressing this urgent humanitarian crisis.
The Egyptian minister stressed the need to propose a political horizon to achieve a fair and sustainable settlement of the Palestinian issue and to restore the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, foremost of which is their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Abdel Aty expressed Egypt's eagerness to continue working closely with the U.S. administration to establish the foundations of just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East that serves the interests of all peoples in the region.
On another note, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot today described the conditions at the distribution centers of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in the area as a scandal and shameful, stating that they must stop.
In a different context, the organization "Doctors Without Borders" warned today of the worsening disaster of malnutrition and hunger among children in the Gaza Strip, explaining that the number of children under the age of five suffering from acute malnutrition has tripled in recent weeks in Gaza.
It noted that its teams in the Gaza Strip receive 25 cases of acute malnutrition daily due to the ongoing blockade and Israeli attacks, emphasizing through the words of the organization's communications officer for the Middle East and North Africa, Inas Abu Khalaf, that "the situation in Gaza is catastrophic by all measures, and it is deteriorating day by day," based on the observations of the organization's teams working in the field.
