توجه الأمين العام لجامعة الدول العربية أحمد أبو الغيط إلى نيويورك للمشاركة في أعمال المؤتمر الدولي رفيع المستوى للتسوية السلمية للقضية الفلسطينية وتنفيذ حل الدولتين، الذي ينعقد خلال الفترة من 28 إلى 30 يوليو الجاري برئاسة مشتركة بين السعودية وفرنسا.
وتأتي مشاركة الأمين العام لجامعة الدول العربية أحمد أبو الغيط في إطار رئاسة الجامعة المشتركة مع الاتحاد الأوروبي لمجموعة العمل الثامنة، التي تركز على تقديم دعم سياسي واقتصادي وأمني للدولة الفلسطينية المستقلة في إطار حل الدولتين.
ويُعد المؤتمر الدولي للتسوية السلمية للقضية الفلسطينية حدثاً بارزاً يهدف إلى إعادة إحياء جهود تحقيق حل الدولتين كإطار لإنهاء الصراع الفلسطيني - الإسرائيلي، ويأتي في سياق تصاعد التوترات في المنطقة، خصوصاً بعد التصعيد العسكري في غزة منذ أكتوبر 2023، الذي أسفر عن خسائر بشرية ومادية جسيمة، حيث أفادت تقارير بمقتل وإصابة عشرات الآلاف من الفلسطينيين، معظمهم من الأطفال والنساء، إلى جانب دمار واسع النطاق في البنية التحتية.
وتترأس المؤتمر السعودية وفرنسا بشكل مشترك، ما يعكس الدور المتزايد للدبلوماسية السعودية في دفع المجتمع الدولي نحو تسوية عادلة وشاملة، ويشارك في المؤتمر عدد كبير من الدول الأعضاء في الأمم المتحدة، إلى جانب منظمات دولية وإقليمية، مثل جامعة الدول العربية والاتحاد الأوروبي، إضافة إلى هيئات الأمم المتحدة ومنظمات المجتمع المدني.
وتتمحور القضية الفلسطينية حول إقامة دولة فلسطينية مستقلة على حدود 4 يونيو 1967، مع القدس الشرقية عاصمة لها، وفقاً لقرارات الشرعية الدولية، مثل قرار مجلس الأمن 242، وقد أكد أبو الغيط مراراً على مركزية القضية الفلسطينية للأمة العربية، مشدداً على رفض أي محاولات لتهجير الفلسطينيين أو تصفية قضيتهم.
في السنوات الأخيرة، واجهت جهود حل الدولتين تحديات كبيرة، بما في ذلك توسع الاستيطان الإسرائيلي، وتدهور الأوضاع الإنسانية في غزة، وتراجع التزام بعض الأطراف الدولية بهذا الحل.
ويأتي المؤتمر كجزء من سلسلة جهود عربية ودولية، مثل تلك التي قامت بها اللجنة الوزارية العربية الإسلامية التي تشكلت في نوفمبر 2023 خلال القمة العربية الإسلامية، والتي تسعى لتنسيق المواقف ودعم وقف إطلاق النار وإيصال المساعدات الإنسانية.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has traveled to New York to participate in the high-level international conference for the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, which will be held from July 28 to 30, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.
Aboul Gheit's participation comes within the framework of the joint presidency of the League with the European Union for the eighth working group, which focuses on providing political, economic, and security support to the independent Palestinian state as part of the two-state solution.
The international conference for the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue is a significant event aimed at reviving efforts to achieve the two-state solution as a framework to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It comes in the context of escalating tensions in the region, especially following the military escalation in Gaza since October 2023, which has resulted in substantial human and material losses. Reports indicate that tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed or injured, most of whom are children and women, alongside widespread destruction of infrastructure.
The conference is co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, reflecting the increasing role of Saudi diplomacy in pushing the international community towards a fair and comprehensive settlement. A large number of UN member states, along with international and regional organizations, such as the Arab League and the European Union, as well as UN bodies and civil society organizations, are participating in the conference.
The Palestinian issue revolves around the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, such as Security Council Resolution 242. Aboul Gheit has repeatedly emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian issue to the Arab nation, stressing the rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians or liquidate their cause.
In recent years, efforts for the two-state solution have faced significant challenges, including the expansion of Israeli settlements, the deterioration of humanitarian conditions in Gaza, and the declining commitment of some international parties to this solution.
The conference is part of a series of Arab and international efforts, such as those undertaken by the Arab Islamic Ministerial Committee formed in November 2023 during the Arab Islamic summit, which seeks to coordinate positions, support a ceasefire, and deliver humanitarian aid.
