The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced today (Tuesday) the formation of a committee to monitor violations in Sweida and investigate the affiliation and background of the perpetrators, clarifying that the maximum penalties will be imposed on those responsible for the violations in the city.
The Syrian news agency (SANA) reported from the Media and Communication Department in the Ministry of Defense confirming that the Ministry of Defense and its Minister, Major General Engineer Marhaf Abu Qasra, have been following reports of shocking and serious violations committed by an unknown group wearing military uniforms in the city of Sweida. It pointed out that based on the strict directives issued by the ministry prohibiting any non-affiliated formations from entering the military operations area, a committee has been formed to follow up on the violations that occurred in the city of Sweida and to investigate the affiliation and background of the individuals responsible for them.
The ministry stated that the maximum penalties will be imposed on the individuals committing the violations in the city of Sweida once they are identified, indicating that the Minister of Defense will directly oversee the investigations of the military violations committee.
Minister of Defense Major General Engineer Marhaf Abu Qasra stated: There will be no tolerance for any of the perpetrators of the violations, even if they are affiliated with the Ministry of Defense.
The Media and Communication Department mentioned that many regional groups were present in the city of Sweida and carried out retaliatory operations there, clarifying that the investigations will include everyone who appeared in the shocking and horrifying reports, and the results will be presented as soon as the committee's work is completed.
For its part, the Syrian Ministry of Interior condemned today in the strongest terms the circulated videos showing field executions carried out by unidentified individuals in the city of Sweida, affirming that these acts represent serious crimes punishable by law with the harshest penalties.
The ministry explained that it has opened an urgent investigation by the relevant authorities to identify those involved in these crimes and to pursue and arrest them, emphasizing that no one is above the law, and that anyone proven to be involved will be referred to the competent judiciary to receive just punishment according to the provisions of the law.
Meanwhile, under the supervision of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the Civil Defense, a number of families left the city of Sweida today.
