Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced the holding of elections for the Palestinian National Council, which consists of 350 members, this year, with two-thirds of its members representing the homeland and the remaining members from abroad and the diaspora, following a review of the Palestinian Liberation Organization's basic law and the National Council election system, and in order to serve the public interest.

The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization decided in its meeting held in Ramallah on July 17, to conduct elections for a new National Council before the end of 2025, in accordance with the Palestinian National Council election system, with the date to be determined by a decision from the head of the Executive Committee.

Among the membership conditions is the member's commitment to the program of the Palestine Liberation Organization and its international obligations and decisions of international legitimacy.

The Palestinian National Council consists of (350 members), with two-thirds of its members representing the homeland, and the other third representing abroad and the diaspora.

The Executive Committee is expected to issue a decision to form a preparatory committee responsible for making the necessary arrangements for conducting the elections, chaired by the President of the Palestinian National Council, with participation from the Council's presidency office, members of the Executive Committee, representatives from Palestinian national factions, and a number of popular organizations, civil society, and Palestinian communities abroad.

The committee will define its tasks in its formation decision, which must be presented to the head of the Executive Committee within a maximum period of two weeks from the date of issuance of this decision for approval.
