The Syrian state television reported via Telegram, "An aggression by the Israeli occupation aircraft near the General Staff building in the Umayyad Square in Damascus."

Journalists and eyewitnesses heard a powerful explosion that echoed across most of the capital shortly after the first strike targeted the same building that houses the Ministry of Defense.

Syrian sources confirmed an explosion near the Syrian Ministry of Defense headquarters in Damascus, while the Israeli army confirmed targeting the entrance gate of the Syrian army General Staff headquarters in Damascus.

Nine Syrians were injured, according to the Syrian Ministry of Health.

Syrian media reported that Israeli planes were flying over the skies of Damascus.

Two Syrian security sources reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted the Ministry of Defense in the capital.

This strike comes amid escalating tensions in southern Syria, where clashes are taking place in the province of Sweida, which is predominantly inhabited by Druze, and Israel claims to be defending them.

The Israeli army stated in a statement that, according to the instructions of the political leadership, the army forces are bombing the area and preparing for various scenarios.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Israel would continue to bomb Syria if the Damascus authorities did not withdraw their forces from the city of Sweida.
