وسط توقعات بعقد لقاء بين وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو ونظيره الروسي سيرغي لافروف اليوم في ماليزيا على هامش منتدى رابطة دول جنوب شرق آسيا (آسيان) الإقليمي السنوي لمناقشة التصعيد في أوكرانيا، دعا الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي اليوم (الخميس) حلفاءه إلى الإسراع في فرض عقوبات جديدة على روسيا، وذلك عقب هجوم شنته موسكو ليلاً بمئات المسيّرات والصواريخ على كييف وأسفر عن سقوط قتلى وجرحى.
وقال زيلينسكي: «يجب فرض عقوبات بسرعة أكبر، ويجب أن يكون الضغط على روسيا قوياً بما يكفي حتى تشعر بعواقب هجماتها»، متهماً روسيا بإطلاق نحو 18 صاروخاً و400 مسيّرة.
ولفت الرئيس الأوكراني إلى أن الهدف الرئيسي للهجوم كان كييف، إضافة إلى مناطق تشيرنيهيف وسومي وبولتافا وخاركيف التي تعرضت للهجوم أيضاً، مبيناً أن هجمات روسيا تصعيد واضح وواسع النطاق ويتطلب من الحلفاء تسريع العقوبات.
وأضاف زيلينسكي: «سأطلب من تحالف الراغبين تمويلاً إضافياً للدفاع الجوي وإنتاج مضادات للمسيرات». جاء ذلك فيما ذكرت وسائل إعلام غربية أنه يجري حالياً إرسال قذائف من عيار 155 ملم، وذخائر موجهة لراجمات الصواريخ إلى أوكرانيا.
وأفادت بأن الأسلحة كانت موجودة في المستودعات البولندية وقت تعليق نقل المساعدات العسكرية إلى أوكرانيا، رغم أن صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز» كانت قد قالت مطلع الشهر الجاري إن الولايات المتحدة ستعلق إمداد أوكرانيا بصواريخ «باتريوت» وبالذخائر الموجهة وصواريخ «هيلفاير» وأنظمة صواريخ «ستينغر» المحمولة وأسلحة أخرى.
وتعرضت كييف لأعنف هجوم ليلي منذ بداية الحرب. وبحسب رئيس الإدارة العسكرية تيمور تكاتشينكو فإن القوات الروسية استهدفت ما لا يقل عن 6 أحياء في العاصمة كييف، وأصابت الضربات أو شظايا المقذوفات التي تم اعتراضها أبنية سكنية وسيارات ومخازن ومكاتب.
وأوضح أن 13 شخصاً على الأقل أصيبوا في الهجمات، مبيناً أن الهجوم الليلي على كييف كان «واسعاً» واستمر «نحو 10 ساعات»، وشُنَّ بواسطة مسيرات قتالية وصواريخ.
وذكرت صحيفة «تليغراف» الأوكرانية أن انفجارات وقعت في مقاطعة سومي الأوكرانية، وتم إطلاق صفارات الإنذار في المقاطعة، مبينة أن هجوماً جوياً روسياً أسفر عن مقتل 3 أشخاص وإصابة رابع في بلدة كوستيانتينيفكا الواقعة على خط المواجهة في شرق أوكرانيا.

Amid expectations of a meeting today between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Malaysia on the sidelines of the annual ASEAN regional forum to discuss the escalation in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on his allies today (Thursday) to expedite the imposition of new sanctions on Russia, following a nighttime attack by Moscow involving hundreds of drones and missiles on Kyiv that resulted in casualties.
Zelensky stated, "Sanctions must be imposed more quickly, and the pressure on Russia must be strong enough for it to feel the consequences of its attacks," accusing Russia of launching around 18 missiles and 400 drones.
The Ukrainian president pointed out that the main target of the attack was Kyiv, in addition to the regions of Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv, which were also attacked, indicating that Russia's strikes represent a clear and widespread escalation that requires allies to accelerate sanctions.
Zelensky added, "I will ask the coalition of willing countries for additional funding for air defense and the production of anti-drone systems." This came as Western media reported that 155 mm shells and guided munitions for rocket launchers are currently being sent to Ukraine.
It was reported that the weapons were in Polish warehouses at the time of the suspension of military aid to Ukraine, although the "New York Times" had stated earlier this month that the United States would suspend supplying Ukraine with "Patriot" missiles, guided munitions, "Hellfire" missiles, Stinger portable missile systems, and other weapons.
Kyiv experienced the most intense nighttime attack since the beginning of the war. According to the head of the military administration, Tymur Tkachchenko, Russian forces targeted at least 6 neighborhoods in the capital Kyiv, and the strikes or debris from intercepted projectiles hit residential buildings, cars, warehouses, and offices.
He clarified that at least 13 people were injured in the attacks, indicating that the nighttime assault on Kyiv was "extensive" and lasted "about 10 hours," and was carried out using combat drones and missiles.
The Ukrainian newspaper "Telegraph" reported that explosions occurred in the Sumy region of Ukraine, and air raid sirens were sounded in the region, noting that a Russian airstrike resulted in the deaths of 3 people and injured a fourth in the town of Kostiantynivka, located on the front line in eastern Ukraine.
