The Malaysian authorities announced the dismantling of a network for the terrorist organization "ISIS" that uses social media to spread ideas and raise funds among Bangladeshi citizens working in the country. The Inspector General of Police in Malaysia, Mohamad Khalid Ismail, stated today (Friday) that the authorities have arrested 36 Bangladeshi citizens in several operations since last April, who came to Malaysia to work in factories or sectors such as construction and services. He confirmed that this network recruited members by targeting other Bangladeshi workers and used social media and electronic messaging platforms to spread extremist ideas.

The police inspector pointed out that the network collected funds through international money transfer services and e-wallets to send to ISIS members in Syria and Bangladesh.

Five of the detainees have been charged with belonging to a terrorist organization, while 15 others will be deported.

According to the security official, 16 individuals are still in police custody awaiting further investigations, with expectations of more arrests.

Malaysia has detained hundreds of individuals suspected of involvement in militant activities following an attack in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, in 2016 linked to ISIS, but arrests have significantly decreased in recent years.

Malaysia relies heavily on foreign labor to fill jobs in factories, farms, and construction, with thousands of Bangladeshi citizens moving there to work each year.
