أكد المبعوث الأمريكي إلى سورية توماس باراك اليوم (الخميس) أن العلاقة بين الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب وولي العهد السعودي رئيس مجلس الوزراء الأمير محمد بن سلمان مفتاح استقرار المنطقة وأساس لبناء رؤية مشتركة للأمن الإقليمي والتنمية، مبينا أن السعودية تمثل ركيزة أساسية في استقرار منطقة الشرق الأوسط.
ووصف باراك، في تصريحاته لـ«العربية» و«الحدث»، الشراكة بين السعودية والولايات المتحدة بالتاريخية والفريدة، مؤكدًا أن الرياض وواشنطن تعملان معًا للقضاء على الإرهاب.
ولفت إلى أن النمو الذي تشهده السعودية مثالًا رائعًا على التطور والنهضة الشاملة، مشيراً إلى أن التعاون السعودي -الأمريكي في مكافحة الإرهاب يمثل أحد أبرز أوجه هذا التحالف.
وقال باراك إن البلدين «يعملان معا للقضاء على التنظيمات الإرهابية وعلى رأسها داعش».
وفيما يتعلق بالشأن السوري، أوضح المبعوث الأمريكي بأن الولايات المتحدة حريصة على منح الحكومة السورية الجديدة فرصة لإثبات جدارتها، مشدداً بالقول: «نحن ملتزمون بتمكين حكومة الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع من إثبات جدارتها وهدفنا حمايته من الجماعات المتواجدة في سورية».
ودعا باراك إلى رفع العقوبات عن سورية للسماح لها بالنهوض، مبدياً إعجابه بالشرع، قائلًا: «تركيزه ومعرفته بالتاريخ يمكنانه من الانتقال من مقاتل إلى رئيس دولة».
وأوضح المبعوث الأمريكي أن أمريكا لم تتسبب بالإطاحة بنظام بشار الأسد، بل الشعب السوري ودول المنطقة، مشيراً إلى أن أولوية أمريكا في سورية هي الازدهار والأمن، ولا نتدخل في شكل الحكم، مشيرا إلى أن الولايات المتحدة تركز على مكافحة داعش والتهديد الإرهابي في سورية.
وشدد بالقول: «واشنطن لا تسعى للتدخل في شؤون دول الشرق الأوسط».

The American envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak, confirmed today (Thursday) that the relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman is key to the stability of the region and the foundation for building a shared vision for regional security and development, noting that Saudi Arabia represents a fundamental pillar in the stability of the Middle East.
Barak described the partnership between Saudi Arabia and the United States as historic and unique in his statements to "Al Arabiya" and "Al Hadath," emphasizing that Riyadh and Washington are working together to combat terrorism.
He pointed out that the growth witnessed in Saudi Arabia is a wonderful example of development and comprehensive renaissance, indicating that Saudi-American cooperation in combating terrorism represents one of the most prominent aspects of this alliance.
Barak stated that the two countries "are working together to eliminate terrorist organizations, foremost among them ISIS."
Regarding the Syrian issue, the American envoy clarified that the United States is keen to give the new Syrian government a chance to prove its worth, stressing: "We are committed to enabling President Ahmed al-Shara's government to prove its competence, and our goal is to protect him from the groups present in Syria."
Barak called for lifting sanctions on Syria to allow it to rise, expressing his admiration for al-Shara, saying: "His focus and knowledge of history enable him to transition from a fighter to a head of state."
The American envoy explained that America did not cause the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, but rather the Syrian people and the countries of the region did, pointing out that America's priority in Syria is prosperity and security, and that it does not interfere in the form of governance, noting that the United States focuses on combating ISIS and the terrorist threat in Syria.
He emphasized: "Washington does not seek to interfere in the affairs of Middle Eastern countries."
