The Iranian parliament approved the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, but announced that the final decision regarding the action is contingent upon the approval of the country's highest security body, according to Iranian media reports today (Sunday).

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated during a press conference in Istanbul: "The Iranian armed forces are on high alert," considering that "all options are on the table" regarding the possibility of closing the Strait of Hormuz.

He asserted that the U.S. has crossed a very significant red line by attacking nuclear facilities. Araghchi mentioned that the extent of the damage to the nuclear facilities is being assessed, indicating that the Iranian armed forces are on high alert..

The Iranian Foreign Minister called on the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency to condemn the attack on the nuclear facilities, emphasizing that Tehran retains all options to defend its security, interests, and people.

Iranian reports indicated that the Iranian parliament is considering the country's withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, following the U.S. strikes on nuclear facilities.

Member of the parliament's security committee, Sara Falahi, stated that the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz will also be on the agenda in a special session of the parliamentary committee.

However, no specific date for the closure has been set, according to the Iranian news agency "Tasnim," following hours after U.S. warplanes bombed the uranium enrichment facility in Fordow and the Isfahan and Natanz nuclear sites.

It is worth noting that the Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is approximately 55 kilometers wide and is a major shipping route for global oil exports.
