أعلن رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر اليوم (السبت) عن نقل بلاده أصولاً عسكرية إضافية، منها طائرات مقاتلة، إلى الشرق الأوسط لتقديم الدعم الطارئ في أنحاء المنطقة.
وقال ستارمر للصحفيين قبل توجهه إلى اجتماع دول مجموعة السبع في كندا: «نحن ننقل أصولاً إلى المنطقة، منها طائرات مقاتلة، لتقديم الدعم في حالات الطوارئ في المنطقة».
وأشار ستارمر إلى أنه تحدّث إلى الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، ورئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو، ووصف الأوضاع بأنها «تتطوّر سريعاً» و«شديدة التوتر».
وقال: «نجري مناقشات مستمرة مع حلفائنا طوال الوقت»، مبيناً أن وزير الخارجية ديفيد لامي تحدّث أيضاً إلى الإيرانيين.
وأشار إلى أن بريطانيا تدعو على الدوام إلى احتواء التصعيد، مبيناً أن كل ما يقوم به من مناقشات هدفها احتواء التصعيد.
ولفت إلى أن محادثاته التي أجراها مع نظيره الإسرائيلي بينيامين نتنياهو «جيدة وبناءة»، مشدداً على ضرورة تهدئة الوضع بشكل عاجل ومنع المزيد من الخسائر المدنية.
بالمقابل، ذكرت وكالة «تسنيم» الإيرانية للأنباء اليوم أن القوات البحرية الإيرانية أوقفت مدمرة تجسس بريطانية في شمال المحيط الهندي، وأجبرتها على تغيير مسارها.
ونقلت الوكالة عن العلاقات العامة للمنطقة البحرية الأولى التابعة للقوات البحرية قولها، في بيان، إن مدمّرة بريطانية دخلت الليلة الماضية شمال المحيط الهندي بهدف توجيه صواريخ تابعة لإسرائيل نحو الأراضي الإيرانية، «وقد تمّ رصدها في الوقت المناسب من قبل أنظمة الاستطلاع التابعة للبحرية الإيرانية».
وأشار البيان إلى أن طائرات مسيّرة تابعة للقوات البحرية وجّهت إنذارات مباشرة للمدمّرة، ومنعت تقدمها نحو مياه الخليج ما حال دون مواصلة المدمّرة في مسارها.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced today (Saturday) that his country is transferring additional military assets, including fighter jets, to the Middle East to provide emergency support across the region.
Starmer told reporters before heading to a G7 meeting in Canada: “We are moving assets to the region, including fighter jets, to provide support in emergencies in the area.”
He noted that he had spoken to U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the situation as “rapidly evolving” and “highly tense.”
He said: “We are having ongoing discussions with our allies all the time,” indicating that Foreign Secretary David Lammy has also spoken to the Iranians.
He pointed out that Britain is always calling for de-escalation, stating that all his discussions aim to contain the escalation.
He highlighted that his talks with Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu were “good and constructive,” emphasizing the urgent need to calm the situation and prevent further civilian casualties.
Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency “Tasnim” reported today that Iranian naval forces stopped a British spy destroyer in the northern Indian Ocean and forced it to change its course.
The agency quoted the public relations of the first naval zone of the naval forces as saying in a statement that a British destroyer entered the northern Indian Ocean last night with the aim of directing Israeli missiles towards Iranian territory, “and it was detected in a timely manner by the reconnaissance systems of the Iranian navy.”
The statement indicated that drones belonging to the naval forces issued direct warnings to the destroyer, preventing its advance towards Gulf waters, which halted the destroyer from continuing on its course.
