Israeli Channel 12 reported that airstrikes destroyed the Iranian nuclear facility in "Natanz," while Iranian state television announced today (Friday) that Israeli air raids targeted several times the Natanz reactor, the main facility for uranium enrichment in the center of the country.

Iranian television showed scenes of thick smoke rising from the site, confirming that the "Natanz enrichment facility was hit several times" by Israeli airstrikes. Eyewitnesses reported hearing explosions at the Natanz nuclear facility after Israel announced it had launched a series of airstrikes against Iran. Iranian television announced new explosions at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility in Isfahan province.

For its part, the International Atomic Energy Agency stated that Iranian authorities did not register any increase in radiation levels at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility targeted by Israeli strikes on Friday.

The Director General of the UN-affiliated agency, Rafael Grossi, wrote on X, "Iranian authorities informed the International Atomic Energy Agency that no increase in radiation levels was recorded at the Natanz site," noting that Iranian authorities said the Bushehr nuclear reactor in southern Iran was not targeted.

According to the Atomic Energy Agency, communications with Iran confirmed that the Isfahan nuclear site was not targeted.

Grossi announced that the agency is "closely monitoring the concerning situation" in Iran after Israel launched a series of airstrikes, particularly targeting the Natanz nuclear facility in central Iran.

Grossi described the situation in Iran as extremely concerning, confirming that the Natanz site is among the targeted objectives, and that the agency is in contact with Iranian authorities regarding radiation levels, as well as communicating with its inspectors in the country.

For his part, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Israel and Iran to exercise maximum restraint following the large-scale airstrikes carried out by Israel.

His spokesperson stated in a statement that the Secretary-General condemns any military escalation in the Middle East, expresses his deep concern regarding the Israeli airstrikes, and urges both sides to exercise maximum restraint and to avoid at all costs slipping into a deeper conflict, a situation the region cannot bear.

Israel launched what it called "Operation Rising Lion," stating that its goal is to strike the Iranian nuclear program, targeting an area where senior leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard reside in the capital, Tehran.
