أكد التلفزيون الإيراني، قبل قليل، اغتيال رئيس الأركان الإيراني اللواء محمد باقري. ويعتبر باقري من أبرز العسكريين الذين شاركوا في الحرب العراقية الإيرانية، وتولى إدارة إحدى مؤسسات التصنيع الحيوية التابعة للحرس الثوري الإيراني. وكان نائباً لرئيس هيئة الأركان العامة للقوات المسلحة الإيرانية. وفي 2016 عينه المرشد الأعلى للجمهورية علي خامنئي رئيسا لهيئة الأركان العامة للقوات المسلحة الإيرانية خلفا للواء حسين فيروز آبادي الذي شغل المنصب منذ 1989.
واللواء محمد باقري هو شقيق حسن باقري الذي كان نائبا لقائد القوة البرية لحرس الثورة الإسلامية.
ويمثل محمد باقري مع ثلاثة عسكريين آخرين، هم: محمد علي جعفري، وعلي فدوي، وغلام علي رشيد الشبكة القيادية لحرس الثورة الإسلامية.
من جانب آخر، أكدت وسائل إعلام إيرانية رسمية إصابة مستشار الرئيس الإيراني، وأمين عام المجلس الأعلى للأمن القومي الإيراني اللواء علي شمخاني، في الهجوم الإسرائيلي الجوي الذي نفذته في الساعات الأولى من صباح اليوم الجمعة.
وكانت التقارير الإيرانية أكدت في وقت سابق مقتل كل من قائد الحرس الثوري الإيراني حسين سلامي، واللواء غلام علي رشيد قائد مقر «خاتم الأنبياء» التابع للحرس الثوري، والعالمين النوويين فريدون عباسي الرئيس السابق لمنظمة الطاقة الذرية الإيرانية، والدكتور محمد مهدي طهرانجي.
وفي السياق ذاته، أطلق جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي العملية العسكرية باسم «قوة الأسد»، وفق ما كشف عنه مسؤول عسكري إسرائيلي لصحيفة إسرائيل تايمز.
وأضاف المسؤول أن الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية كانت على علم مسبق بالعملية، دون أن يوضح ما إذا كان هناك تنسيق مباشر أو دعم لوجستي من الجانب الأمريكي.
من جانب آخر، توعد المرشد الإيراني علي خامنئي، إسرائيل قائلا: «فلينتظر الكيان الصهيوني عقابا شديدا من قواتنا المسلحة».
The Iranian television confirmed a short while ago the assassination of the Iranian Chief of Staff, Major General Mohammad Baqeri. Baqeri is considered one of the prominent military figures who participated in the Iran-Iraq war, and he managed one of the vital manufacturing institutions affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. He was the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. In 2016, the Supreme Leader of the Republic, Ali Khamenei, appointed him as the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, succeeding Major General Hussein Firouzabadi, who held the position since 1989.
Major General Mohammad Baqeri is the brother of Hassan Baqeri, who was the Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard.
Mohammad Baqeri, along with three other military officials, namely: Mohammad Ali Jafari, Ali Fadavi, and Gholam Ali Rashid, represents the leadership network of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard.
On another note, Iranian state media confirmed the injury of the Iranian President's advisor and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Major General Ali Shamkhani, in the Israeli airstrike carried out in the early hours of this Friday morning.
Earlier reports from Iran confirmed the deaths of both the Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hussein Salami, and Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, the commander of the "Khatam al-Anbiya" headquarters affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard, as well as the two nuclear scientists, Fereydoun Abbasi, the former head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, and Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Tehranji.
In the same context, the Israeli occupation army launched a military operation named "Lion's Strength," as revealed by an Israeli military official to the Israel Times.
The official added that the United States was previously aware of the operation, without clarifying whether there was direct coordination or logistical support from the American side.
On another front, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei threatened Israel, saying: "The Zionist entity should await severe punishment from our armed forces."
