عزت شبكة «سي إن إن» أسباب اشتعال «بؤرة الغضب» في لوس أنجلوس، إلى التركيبة السكانية للمدينة، مؤكدة أنها لعبت دوراً في إشعال الاحتجاجات على سياسة الهجرة التي تبنتها إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترمب.
يذكر أن لوس أنجلوس تعتبر موطناً لعدد كبير من السكان من أصول إسبانية ولاتينية، وهم يشكلون نحو نصف السكان. وأفادت الشبكة بأن لوس أنجلوس هي المقاطعة الأكثر اكتظاظاً بالسكان في ولاية كاليفورنيا، ويبلغ عدد سكانها نحو 10 ملايين نسمة. وأفادت بأنه من بين هؤلاء، يشكل اللاتينيون أو ذوو الأصول الإسبانية نسبة 48.6%، وأن أكثر من ثلث سكان لوس أنجلوس هم من المهاجرين.
واعتبرت «سي إن إن» أن لوس أنجلوس أصبحت رسمياً «مدينة ملاذ» منذ شهر نوفمبر الماضي، قبل أن يتولى دونالد ترمب منصبه للمرة الثانية، بمعنى أنها توفر ملاذاً لبعض الأفراد أو المجموعات، خصوصاً إذا كانت هذه المدن تعتبر أكثر ملاءمة للمهاجرين أو اللاجئين أو غيرهم ممن يواجهون تحديات في أماكن أخرى.
من جانبها، ذكرت وزارة الأمن الداخلي أن قسم إنفاذ قوانين الهجرة والجمارك التابع لها اعتقل 2000 من مرتكبي جرائم الهجرة بشكل يومي في الأيام القليلة الماضية، وهو أعلى بكثير من المتوسط اليومي البالغ 311 في السنة المالية 2024 في عهد الرئيس السابق جو بايدن.
واتهمت عمدة لوس أنجلوس كارين باس، الإثنين، حملة قسم إنفاذ قوانين الهجرة، والتي نفذت الجمعة للكشف عن المهاجرين غير الشرعيين في وسط المدينة، بأنها أشعلت شرارة الاحتجاجات العنيفة خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع.
