The Colorado state court in the United States has charged the defendant with attempted murder and other crimes for carrying out the Colorado attack on a pro-Israel rally.
Western media reported that state prosecutors said that Egyptian citizen Mohamed Suleiman (45 years old) faces a prison sentence of over 600 years if convicted on up to 28 counts of attempted murder, and he faces a total of 118 charges including assault, use of incendiary devices, and animal cruelty.
Suleiman also faces federal charges of committing hate crimes that could result in a life sentence if convicted, and he is scheduled to appear in federal court today (Friday).
Media reports indicated that Suleiman wore orange prison clothes during the hearing yesterday (Thursday) in the courtroom inside Boulder County Jail, appearing behind thick glass with shackles binding his hands and feet.
The Boulder County District Attorney announced that 3 victims from last Sunday’s attack are still in the hospital, while prosecutors stated that the number of those affected by the attack is 15 people, aged between 25 and 88, including 10 injured.
The district attorney said that Suleiman threw incendiary bottles and shouted "Free Palestine" at participants in an event organized by the pro-Israel organization (Run for Their Lives).
According to circulating information, Suleiman entered the United States on a tourist visa in 2022 and had recently been living in Colorado Springs. Federal officials stated that he overstayed his tourist visa and his work permit has expired, making his stay in the country illegal.
Authorities detained his family, consisting of his wife and five children, last Tuesday amid expectations of their deportation, although a federal judge temporarily blocked their deportation on Wednesday, hindering the expedited removal process against them.
