أعلنت شرطة كامبريدج اسم قاتل الطالب السعودي محمد يوسف القاسم، وقالت إنه شاب يبلغ من العمر 21 عاماً، يُدعى تشارلز كوريجان، ويقيم في طريق هولبروك بكامبريدج، ووُجهت إليه تهمة القتل وحيازة سكين في مكان عام. كما نشرت صحيفة ديلي ميرور البريطانية صورة لشاب بريطاني قالت إنها صورة القاتل المتوحش تشارلز كوريجان.
ومثل كوريجان أمام محكمة بيتربورو الجزئية الاثنين 4 أغسطس. وأضافت الشرطة أنه أُعيد إلى الحجز الاحتياطي للمثول أمام محكمة كامبريدج كراون اليوم (الأربعاء).
وأوضحت السفارة السعودية لدى المملكة المتحدة أنها تتابع واقعة الاعتداء على المواطن السعودي جنوب مدينة كامبريدج البريطانية، التي أدت إلى وفاته.
وأكدت السفارة في بيان لها على موقعها في «x» أنها تواصل التنسيق مع الجهات البريطانية المختصة للكشف عن ملابسات الحادثة الآليمة، تمهيداً لاستكمال إجراءات نقل جثمان الفقيد - رحمه الله - إلى المملكة.
وتواصل الشرطة البريطانية التحقيق في حادثة مقتل المبتعث السعودي محمد يوسف القاسم (20 عاماً)، الذي تعرّض للطعن مساء الجمعة الماضي جنوب مدينة كامبريدج البريطانية، حيث يدرس اللغة الإنجليزية في معهد «إي إف إنترناشونال لانغويتش كامبوسز» الخاص لتعليم اللغة الإنجليزية.
وأكدت شرطة كامبريدج في بيان صدر (الإثنين) توجيه تهمة القتل وحيازة سكين في مكان عام إلى رجل يبلغ من العمر 21 عاماً من كامبريدج البريطانية.
وأضافت: «أُلقي القبض على رجل يبلغ من العمر 50 عاماً وهو أيضاً من المدينة، للاشتباه في مساعدته لمجرم. ولا يزال رهن الاحتجاز».
وأوضحت الشرطة أن الطالب السعودي محمد يوسف القاسم كان في برنامج تدريبي لمدة 10 أسابيع في كامبريدج.
وحول تفاصيل الحادثة، أشارت شرطة كامبريدج إلى أنه تم استدعاؤها إلى ميل بارك الساعة 11:27 مساء الجمعة (1 أغسطس) إثر بلاغات عن عنف. ورغم جهود المسعفين الحثيثة، أُعلن وفاة الطالب السعودي محمد القاسم في مكان الحادثة الساعة 12:01 صباحاً (2 أغسطس).
وتشير التحقيقات الأولية إلى أن الجريمة وقعت إثر مشاجرة مفتعلة من قبل الجناة أثناء عودة الطالب السعودي إلى مقر سكنه الذي يبعد نحو 10 دقائق سيراً.
ووفق التحقيقات، قام أحد الجناة بافتعال مشاجرة مع القاسم في منطقة «ميل بارك» قبل أن يغدره بطعنة قاتلة بسكين، ليتم القبض على اثنين من المشتبه بهم.
وصرحت مدرسة إي أف الدولية للغات في كامبريدج، وهي مدرسة خاصة تقدم دورات في اللغة الإنجليزية للطلاب الأجانب، سابقاً بأنها «تشعر بحزن عميق» لتأكيد وفاة أحد طلابها البالغين.
ووُضعت رسالة على ورقة مُلصقة على حاجز خلف النصب التذكارية في ميل بارك، كُتب عليها «رحم الله روحك»، ورُسمت عليها أشكال قلوب. وكُتبت عليها عبارة «إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون».

He has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place. The British newspaper Daily Mirror also published a photo of a British man, claiming it is the image of the savage killer Charles Corrigan.
Corrigan appeared before the Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Monday, August 4. The police added that he was remanded in custody to appear before Cambridge Crown Court today (Wednesday).
The Saudi embassy in the United Kingdom clarified that it is following up on the incident of the assault on the Saudi citizen south of Cambridge, which led to his death.
The embassy confirmed in a statement on its "x" site that it continues to coordinate with the relevant British authorities to uncover the circumstances of the tragic incident, in preparation for completing the procedures to transfer the body of the deceased - may he rest in peace - to the Kingdom.
The British police continue to investigate the murder of Saudi scholarship student Mohammed Youssef Al-Qassem (20 years old), who was stabbed last Friday evening south of Cambridge, where he was studying English at the private "EF International Language Campuses" language school.
The Cambridge police confirmed in a statement issued on (Monday) that a 21-year-old man from Cambridge has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place.
They added: "A 50-year-old man, also from the city, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in custody."
The police explained that Saudi student Mohammed Youssef Al-Qassem was in a 10-week training program in Cambridge.
Regarding the details of the incident, the Cambridge police indicated that they were called to Mill Park at 11:27 PM on Friday (August 1) following reports of violence. Despite the paramedics' diligent efforts, Saudi student Mohammed Al-Qassem was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:01 AM (August 2).
Preliminary investigations suggest that the crime occurred following a staged altercation by the assailants while the Saudi student was returning to his residence, which is about a 10-minute walk away.
According to the investigations, one of the assailants staged a fight with Al-Qassem in the "Mill Park" area before fatally stabbing him with a knife, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
EF International Language School in Cambridge, a private school offering English language courses for foreign students, previously stated that it "feels deep sadness" to confirm the death of one of its adult students.
A message was placed on a paper attached to a barrier behind the memorials in Mill Park, reading "May God have mercy on your soul," with heart shapes drawn on it. It also included the phrase "Indeed, we belong to God, and indeed, to Him we shall return."
