أوضحت السفارة السعودية لدى المملكة المتحدة أنها تتابع واقعة اعتداء على مواطن سعودي جنوب مدينة كامبريدج البريطانية، والتي أدت إلى وفاته.
وأكدت السفارة في بيان لها على موقعها في «x» «أنها تواصل التنسيق مع الجهات البريطانية المختصة للكشف عن ملابسات الحادث الآليم، تمهيداً لاستكمال إجراءات نقل جثمان الفقيد - رحمه الله - إلى المملكة».
وقدمت السفارة وكافة منسوبيها لأسرة الفقيد خالص العزاء والمواساة سائلين المولى عز وجل أن يتغمد الفقيد بواسع رحمته.
وكانت شرطة كامبريدج أصدرت اليوم (الإثنين) بياناً أكدت فيه توجيه تهمة القتل وحيازة سكين في مكان عام إلى رجل يبلغ من العمر 21 عامًا، من كامبريدج البريطانية، بعد أن طعن طالباً سعودياً يبلغ من العمر 20 عاماً، حتى الموت في هجوم وصفته الشرطة بأنه «غير مبرر».
وقالت الشرطة إن المتهم سيمثل أمام محكمة بيتربورو الجزئية اليوم (4 أغسطس). وأضافت: «من المقرر إجراء تشريح للجثة يوم الثلاثاء».
وأضافت:«أُلقي القبض على رجل يبلغ من العمر 50 عامًا، وهو أيضًا من المدينة، للاشتباه في مساعدته لمجرم. ولا يزال رهن الاحتجاز».
وأوضحت الشرطة أن الطالب السعودي محمد يوسف القاسم كان في برنامج تدريبي لمدة 10 أسابيع في كامبريدج.
وحول تفاصيل الحادثة، أشارت شرطة كامبريدج إلى أنه تم استدعاؤها إلى ميل بارك الساعة 11:27 مساءً يوم الجمعة (1 أغسطس) إثر بلاغات عن عنف. ورغم جهود المسعفين الحثيثة، أُعلنت وفاة الطالب السعودي محمد القاسم، 20 عامًا في مكان الحادثة الساعة 12:01 صباحًا (2 أغسطس).
وكان المبتعث السعودي محمد يوسف القاسم، تعرّض للطعن مساء يوم الجمعة الماضي جنوب مدينة كامبريدج البريطانية، حيث يدرس اللغة الإنجليزية في معهد «إي إف إنترناشونال لانغويتش كامبوسز» الخاص، لتعليم اللغة الإنجليزية.
وتشير المعلومات الأولية إلى أن الجريمة وقعت إثر مشاجرة مفتعلة من قبل الجناة، أثناء عودته إلى مقر سكنه الذي يبعد نحو 10 دقائق سيراً، إذ قام أحد الجناة بافتعال مشاجرة مع القاسم في منطقة «ميل بارك» قبل أن يغدره بطعنة قاتلة بسكين، ليتم القبض على اثنين من المشتبه بهم ولا يزال الثالث هارباً.
The Saudi embassy in the United Kingdom has stated that it is following up on the incident of an attack on a Saudi citizen south of the British city of Cambridge, which led to his death.
The embassy confirmed in a statement on its "x" account that it is continuing to coordinate with the relevant British authorities to uncover the circumstances of the tragic incident, in preparation for completing the procedures for transferring the deceased's body - may God have mercy on him - to the Kingdom.
The embassy and all its staff offered their sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased, asking the Almighty to envelop him in His vast mercy.
The Cambridge police issued a statement today (Monday) confirming that a 21-year-old man from Cambridge has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place after he fatally stabbed a 20-year-old Saudi student in what the police described as an "unprovoked" attack.
The police stated that the accused will appear before the Peterborough Magistrates' Court today (August 4). They added, "An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday."
They also mentioned, "A 50-year-old man, also from the city, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in custody."
The police clarified that the Saudi student, Mohammed Youssef Al-Qasim, was in a 10-week training program in Cambridge.
Regarding the details of the incident, the Cambridge police indicated that they were called to Mill Park at 11:27 PM on Friday (August 1) following reports of violence. Despite the paramedics' diligent efforts, the Saudi student Mohammed Al-Qasim, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:01 AM (August 2).
The Saudi scholarship student Mohammed Youssef Al-Qasim was stabbed on the evening of last Friday south of the British city of Cambridge, where he was studying English at the private "EF International Language Campuses" institute.
Initial information indicates that the crime occurred following a fabricated altercation by the assailants while he was returning to his residence, which is about a 10-minute walk away. One of the assailants instigated a fight with Al-Qasim in the "Mill Park" area before fatally stabbing him with a knife, leading to the arrest of two suspects, while the third remains at large.
