دشَّنت قوات الدفاع الجوي الملكي السعودي أول سرية من نظام الدفاع الجوي الصاروخي «الثاد»، وذلك بعد استكمال اختبار وفحص وتشغيل منظوماتها، وتنفيذ التدريب الجماعي الميداني لمنسوبيها داخل أراضي المملكة، وذلك خلال حفل أقيم في معهد قوات الدفاع الجوي بمحافظة جدة، بحضور قائد قوات الدفاع الجوي الفريق الركن مزيد بن سليمان العمرو.
وقام قائد قوات الدفاع الجوي خلال الحفل بتسليم علم السرية إلى قائد مجموعة الدفاع الجوي الأولى، إيذاناً بدخولها الخدمة الرسمية ضمن منظومات قوات الدفاع الجوي الملكي السعودي.
ويأتي تدشين هذه السرية ضمن مشروع «الثاد» الدفاعي، الذي يهدف إلى تعزيز جاهزية قوات الدفاع الجوي، ورفع قدراتها في مجال حماية الأجواء والمنشآت الحيوية، بما يسهم في دعم أمن المصالح الإستراتيجية للمملكة.
يُذكر أن قوات الدفاع الجوي كانت قد خرَّجت في وقت سابق السريتين الأولى والثانية من نظام «الثاد»، وذلك بعد إتمام منسوبيها دورات التدريب الفردي المتخصص في قاعدة «فورت بليس» بولاية تكساس الأمريكية.
The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces inaugurated the first battery of the THAAD missile defense system after completing the testing, inspection, and operation of its systems, as well as conducting collective field training for its personnel within the Kingdom's territory. This took place during a ceremony held at the Air Defense Forces Institute in Jeddah, attended by the Commander of the Air Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Mazid bin Suleiman Al-Amro.
During the ceremony, the Commander of the Air Defense Forces handed over the battery flag to the Commander of the First Air Defense Group, marking its official entry into service within the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces systems.
The inauguration of this battery is part of the THAAD defense project, which aims to enhance the readiness of the Air Defense Forces and increase their capabilities in protecting the airspace and vital installations, contributing to the security of the Kingdom's strategic interests.
It is worth noting that the Air Defense Forces had previously graduated the first and second batteries of the THAAD system after their personnel completed specialized individual training courses at Fort Bliss in Texas, USA.
