The lighting in the Prophet's Mosque represents a part of the care that Saudi Arabia dedicates to the mosque, preparing its spaces and facilities to serve the worshippers.
There are 133,459 lighting units distributed throughout the mosque, installed in its ceiling and walls, featuring various designs and shapes of lighting, complementing the unique architectural style that distinguishes the Prophet's Mosque. This includes 30 types of harmoniously shaped lighting units, in varying sizes that add a distinctive character, highlight the quality of the architecture of the Prophet's Mosque, and contribute to the uniform distribution of light within the mosque, its external courtyards, and its minarets.
The General Authority for the Care of the Prophet's Mosque explained that the efforts to illuminate the mosque included the installation of 307 large chandeliers in the old sanctuary and the Saudi expansions, which were installed in a geometric manner with attention to their harmony with the surrounding architecture, ensuring the safety of the worshippers and visitors. Additionally, there are 8,000 lighting units distributed on all the columns of the Prophet's Mosque, designed in a gilded manner, reflecting the precision and harmony of this type of lighting installation on the sides of the columns, to spread light around the area.
The efforts to illuminate the Prophet's Mosque also included the installation of 11,000 lighting units bearing the name of God on the ceiling of the mosque and along the extent of the modern expansions that the Prophet's Mosque has witnessed, with attention to unifying the colors of the lighting and highlighting the architectural details of the mosque.
