أعلنت كندا استئناف المفاوضات التجارية مع الولايات المتحدة وإلغاء الضريبة الرقمية على الشركات التكنولوجية الأمريكية، التي دفعت الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب لوقف المباحثات.
وفرضت أوتاوا ضريبة الخدمات الرقمية العام الماضي، ومن المتوقع أن تُدر 5.9 مليار دولار كندي على مدى خمس سنوات، ومع أن هذا الإجراء ليس جديداً، إلا أن رابطة صناعة الحواسيب والاتصالات الأمريكية أشارت أخيرا إلى أن هذا الرسم كان سيحمّل مقدمي الخدمات الأمريكيين ضرائب بمليارات الدولارات في كندا بحلول 30 يونيو.
وكانت واشنطن قد طلبت إجراء محادثات لتسوية النزاع حول هذه المسألة، لكن ترمب أعلن بشكل مفاجئ الجمعة إنهاء المفاوضات التجارية مع كندا «فوراً»، مؤكداً أن ذلك يأتي رداً على الضريبة. وأوضح أن أوتاوا ستعرف التعرفة التي ستُفرض عليها خلال الأسبوع الحالي.
وقال وزير المالية الكندي فرانسوا فيليب شامبان في بيان: «إن ترمب ورئيس الوزراء الكندي مارك كارني اتفقا على استئناف المفاوضات بهدف التوصل إلى صفقة بحلول 21 يوليو 2025».
وأضاف: «كندا ستلغي ضريبة الخدمات الرقمية تحسباً لاتفاق تجاري شامل مع الولايات المتحدة يعود بالنفع المتبادل».
وكان وزير الخزانة الأمريكي سكوت بيسينت قال لشبكة «CNBC» (الجمعة) إن واشنطن تأمل في أن تقوم الحكومة الكندية بتعليق ضريبة الخدمات الرقمية «كبادرة حسن نية».

Canada announced the resumption of trade negotiations with the United States and the cancellation of the digital tax on American technology companies, which prompted U.S. President Donald Trump to halt discussions.
Ottawa imposed a digital services tax last year, expected to generate CAD 5.9 billion over five years. While this measure is not new, the American Computer and Communications Industry Association recently pointed out that this fee would impose billions of dollars in taxes on American service providers in Canada by June 30.
Washington had requested talks to resolve the dispute over this issue, but Trump unexpectedly announced on Friday the immediate termination of trade negotiations with Canada, confirming that this was in response to the tax. He clarified that Ottawa would know the tariff that would be imposed on it during the current week.
Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne stated in a statement: "Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney agreed to resume negotiations with the aim of reaching a deal by July 21, 2025."
He added: "Canada will eliminate the digital services tax in anticipation of a comprehensive trade agreement with the United States that benefits both parties."
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Pruitt told CNBC on Friday that Washington hopes the Canadian government will suspend the digital services tax "as a goodwill gesture."
